MYOPIC-MINDED & UNCOUTH PROMOTER

PhilBoxing.com

BRISBANE -- Several journalists complained about the jam-packed venue of Saturday?s weigh-in at Suncorp Stadium.

Well, blame it on Dean Lonergan, Jeff Horn?s egotistic promoter.

This guy seemingly cannot find a bigger venue for the weigh-in. It?s like he was just promoting a brawl in a far-flung village.

The weigh-in was held in a small room as small as Lonergan?s mentality, figuratively speaking.

Lonergan was not just myopic-minded, he?s also an uncouth host.

During last Wednesday press conference, Lonergan was spewing diatribes against World Boxing Organization Welterweight king Manny Pacquiao.

When it was his turn to speak, Lonergan openly criticized Pacquiao for using his mobile phone while the press conference was going on. What he did was an utter insult.

Australian promoter Dean Lonergan.

Manny Pacquiao (L) trun his attention on his phone during Wednesday's presscon. To Pacquiao's right is Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Jeff Horn.

Lonergan?s equally conceited fighter, Jeff Horn, chimed in, saying ?If he (Pacquiao) did that in my class, I?d put him in detention.?

Well, Lonergan and Horn deserve each other. Both of them are still an obscure figure -- virtually a nobody -- in the world of boxing but arrogance had already engulfed their heart and mind.

That was their gravest mistake. I?m sure the promoter?s insolence will fuel Pacman?s ferocity to go for a knockout win.

No one had ever done that to Pacquiao in any of his previous fights especially in the US.

I could feel Pacman?s dislike for both Lonergan and Horn. And this coming July 2, I?m sure Pacman will teach them a haunting lesson above the ring.

To set the record straight, let me tell Lonergan and his boxing puppy that Pacquiao is the type of fighter who can multitask.

Pacquiao can be busy with his mobile phone while at the same time listening to what the tourism minister or the lord mayor was saying.

If Lonergan can?t multitask he should not begrudge Pacquiao for that.

It just meant one thing ? that Lonergan and his ward are not in the same level with Pacman.

Don?t try desperately to catch the world?s attention. Your greenhorn fighter was born a boxer but not a champion.

With all his bravado and swell-headedness, Horn?s hallucination and dream will just vanish in thin air come fight day.

Pacquiao is a politician. He has urgent concerns back in his country which need his attention while temporarily staying here in Brisbane. His job as senator is more important than this fight.

Lonergan should not prevent the Pinoy boxing icon from doing his job as a lawmaker.

Anyway, how can we expect Lonergan to figure out the enormous responsibility of a lawmaker and world sports icon like Pacman when, as host, he can?t even show respect to his guest.
