ALBERT PAGARA WINS OVER COMMEY BY UNANIMOUS DECISION

PhilBoxing.com

The Road to Redemption is not that simple. It was shown when Prince Albert Pagara clashed with Raymond Commey of Accra, Ghana in his featherweight debut last night at the Pinoy Pride 39 undercard at the Cebu Coliseum.

Albert started slow in the first round as he was still learning the moves of the Ghanian. But he had some impressive offensive actions which enabled him to control the onset of the bout.

Commey came back aggressively in the second round and scored some blows which caused the younger Pagara to backpedal. The Prince may be surprised on how resilient the African was.

Tough combinations to the head and body of Commey made Pagara score the third in his favor. The Ghana native just stayed strong enough to stand sturdily in the fight.

The Maasin city boxer landed more telling blows and was more accurate in the fourth canto. But the African champion was just too strong to be halted as he countered with strong punches to the ALA Gym standout.

Rugged combos of jabs and straights to the head and body wobbled the Ghanian but he refused to buckle in the fifth. Albert kept piling points against his foreign foe.

Pagara's dominance continued in the sixth as he increased his combative power on the defensive Ghana fighter. Commey just stayed on his feet and continued his counter punching.

Seventh round was almost even as Commey became more active, advancing and punching, sensing that he was trailing on points.

Round eight saw both protagonists exchanging blows. In the ninth, Pagara rained punches on Commey but still he could not knock the African down even he was dazed a bit. Commey continued his offensive to counter Albert's arsenal.

Round ten saw the two fighters surviving the fight after punishing each other. The verdict was 99-91 unanimously for all the three judges in favor of Albert Pagara.

The crowd cheered Commey for giving Pagara a good fight while some would have wanted the ALA fighter to KO the visiting foe. Commey was just too hard to stop. He had only one KO loss in his career, against John Amuzu of Benin in Africa.

Albert's redemption may be devoid of a stoppage, however slowly but surely he was back on track.
