NBA -- Knicks fire coach Fisher
By Homer D. Sayson PhilBoxing.com Tue, 09 Feb 2016

CHICAGO -- The New York Knicks have terminated the services of head coach Derek Fisher, cutting short his tenure in one of the NBA's most storied franchise.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, team officials were convinced that Fisher was "not transitioning from the role of player to coach effectively."
Hired by Knicks president Phil Jackson last June 2014, Fisher logged a 17-65 record in his rookie campaign and exited this season with a 23-31 slate. His departure, according to ESPN, was hastened by the Knicks' current five-game slide.
Fisher, 41, played for 18 NBA seasons and won five titles with the Lakers under Jackson. He is also the past president of the NBA players association, serving from 2006 to 2013.
"This is a very talented team with strong characters and I am confident they will succeed," Fisher was quoted by the Associated Press.
In the interim, Fisher will be replaced by one of his assistants, Kurt Rambis, a former Laker during the Showtime era. Rambis is also a former NBA head coach and executive. (HDS)
