RACHMAN SENDS SPARRING PARTNER TO HOSPITAL
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 26 Jun 2007
IBF minimum weight champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia who defends his title against mandatory challenger Florante Condes of the Philippines on July 7 in Jakarta has sent his sparring partner to hospital.
A report by boxing writer Jeff Pamungkas says Rachman last week knocked out Boy Suga with a right hook to the jaw during sparring and that Suga was hospitalized. However, the world champion’s manager Martinez dos Santos said that Suga didn’t suffer any serious injury and had already checked out of the hospital.
Condes who will have his final sparring session today against four separate opponents would have sparred 160 rounds when he tapers off, according to his manager Aljoe Jaro, himself a former boxer.
Condes laughed off the claim of Rachman that he sent his sparring partner to hospital saying "I wont send sparring partners to hospital. I will send Rachman to hospital after our title fight."
The devastating puncher has trained hard and has expressed confidence of winning the title from the 35 year old champion.
The referee for the IBF title fight will be Wayne Hedgepath of New Jersey while the judges are Montol Suriyachand of Thailand, Muhhamad Rois of Indonesia and boxing writer Salven Lagumbay of the Philippines.
