NBA -- Derrick Favors, Jazz fall short at Staples

LOS ANGELES -- Utah Jazz power forward Derrick Favors showed the stuff the netted him a four-year contract extension worth $49 million four days ago.
In a preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night at the Staples Center, the 6-foot-10 power forward made 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. The Georgia Tech alum made 3-of-8 field goals and sank 4-of-6 free throws.
The Jazz, however, fell short and lost, 108-94.
Brian Cook had 18 points while Gordon Hayward added 15 for Utah, which converted only 35 of 88 field goals for 39.8 percent and 8-of-26 threes for 30.8 percent.
Jordan Farmar spearheaded the Lakers onslaught with a game-high points. Jodie Meeks added while Wesley Johnson, Shawne Williams and Pau Gasol each had nine points. Kobe Bryant,, who continues to rehab from a torn Achilles, did not play.
The Lakers improved to 3-4 in exhibition play while the Jazz plummeted to 1-5.
