Team USA Set for Capri Boxing Cup Against Italy on Saturday PhilBoxing.com Sun, 26 Jul 2026 Eight Bouts Scheduled as Team USA Faces Italy at the Capri Boxing Cup COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 25, 2026)– USA Boxing is set to compete at the Capri Boxing Cup this weekend in Capri, Italy. The Stars and Stripes will send eight boxers into an international duel against Italy, with four men and four women representing Team USA. Team USA's eight boxers will take the ring on Saturday, July 25, with competition scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET. 2024 Paris Olympian Jennifer Lozano will open the duel for the Stars and Stripes against Sara Calvani in the 51-kilogram division at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET. The Texas native enters the duel after a dominant 7-0 gold-medal performance at the 2026 Copa America and will look to carry that momentum into Italy. Up next, Yahir Diaz-Martinez will square off against Michele Baldassi, who has represented Italy at multiple international events in 2026, including both World Boxing Cup stops in Brazil and China. Diaz-Martinez is on the USA Boxing Elite High Performance Squad and has competed at two international events this year, earning bronze and silver medals. Next up, 2024 Paris Olympian Jajaira Gonzalez returns to international competition for the first time since 2025 after recovering from an injury. She will face Stella Tosadori in the 60-kilogram division. The California native earned a bronze medal in 2025 at the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix. Team USA will then send two more Elite High Performance Squad athletes into the ring, Dustin Jimenez and Kendra Samargis. Jimenez will be the first of the two to compete, as the New York native will face Giacomo Giannotti in the 65-kilogram weight division, while Samargis will face Melissa Gemini in the 75-kilogram weight division. Following Samargis, USA Boxing will have the 2021 World Championships gold medalist Robby "Rahim" Gonzales in the 80-kilogram division against Alfred Commey. The Las Vegas native is making his return to the ring after suffering an injury earlier this year at the Strandja Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria. The penultimate bout of the duel features two Olympians, as 2024 Paris Olympian Alyssa Mendoza faces three-time Olympian and Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Irma Testa. Mendoza earned a bronze medal earlier this year at the 2026 Strandja Boxing Tournament and a gold medal in 2025. Closing out the duel for Team USA will be 2026 Copa America silver medalist Malachi Georges. The New Jersey native will face World Boxing Cup: Brazil 2026 bronze medalist Chimé Dean Nwokedi in the 90-kilogram bout. Throughout the Capri Boxing Cup, the United States will be led by USA Boxing National Technical Coach Zaur Antia, along with Elite High Performance assistant pool coaches Jay Nimo and Stephen Grand.
