NBA Finals -- Parker is "ready to go" for Game 4 By Rodene Ivan B. Cortes PhilBoxing.com Fri, 14 Jun 2013 NEW YORK -- Diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker's availability for today's Game 4 of the NBA Finals had been in doubt immediately after an MRI confirmed the injury yesterday, hours after his team obliterated the Miami Heat in Game 3, 113-77, at the AT@T Center. But the Spurs' fortunes changed dramatically when Parker told reporters he is "ready to go" for Game 4. Holding a slim 2-1 lead in this best-of-seven championship series, the Spurs go for the jugular when action resumes in a few hours. In the history of the NBA Finals, all 31 teams who have taken a 3-1 lead have gone on to claim the Larry O'Brien trophy. It's a fact that is not lost on Miami's four-time MVP, LeBron James, who swore he will do "whatever it takes" to even the series. James has been less than spectacular for the Heat in these Finals, averaging just 16.6 points in three games while shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 23 percent from 3-point range. The King, however, is doing a lot of rebounding and passing, 12.3 and 7.3 respectively. Parker, meanwhile, remains the catalyst of the Sprs' attack. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Frenchman is averaging 13.3 points and 6.3 assists in these Finals. He swished the game-winning shot that allowed the Spurs to upset Miami in Game 1 Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena. "The good news is that it's not a tear. Now I'm just going to stay positive and see how I feel. If it was the regular season I would definitely...not play," Parker told the San Antonio Express News yesterday. The Spurs are 11-5 without Parker this season but they'd rather have their court general as they attempt to take a stranglehold of this title showdown. "It's a huge brick off our shoulders," Spurs guard Gary Neal told ESPN.com (RIC) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Rodene Ivan B. Cortes. |
