Christopher Guerrero to face Delante Johnson on July 4 at the CSU Wolstein Center in Cleveland! PhilBoxing.com Wed, 06 May 2026 ![]() MONTRÉAL, May 5, 2026 — Montreal’s Christopher Guerrero will have the opportunity to shine on the international stage on July 4! In a clash of undefeated rising contenders presented by Top Rank and broadcast globally on DAZN, the Eye of the Tiger protégé will square off against American Delante "Tiger" Johnson at CSU Wolstein Center in Cleveland. “This is the moment I’ve been waiting for my whole life. It’s long overdue. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to collect a paycheck. I’m here to take what’s mine,” said the 25-year-old Christopher Guerrero. “You don’t get anything without taking risks, but Christopher is ready. This is the fight that will change his life,” added his trainer, Giuseppe Moffa, who coaches the fighter nicknamed “Machine Gun.” Already the WBC Continental champion at welterweight (147 lb), Christopher Guerrero (16-0, 9 KO) is currently ranked No. 15 in the world by the IBF and No. 20 by the WBC. His rise on the global scene began last year when he won four bouts, each considered the toughest test of his young career at the time. In February 2025, he became the first to stop Swiss veteran Dennis Dauti, doing so in the fourth round. That April, he captured the continental title with a standout performance against Mexican puncher Oliver Quintana. He then defended his title twice, in June and October, stopping French contender Sandy Massoued and dominating Argentine brawler Williams Herrera. Having proven he’s ready for the next level, the two-time Canadian national amateur champion now heads to Ohio in July. American Delante “Tiger” Johnson (17-0, 8 KO), however, shares those same ambitions. Backed by an impressive amateur résumé, Johnson was crowned junior world champion in 2018, earned bronze and silver medals at the 2017 and 2019 Pan American Games, and represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. As a professional, the Cleveland native initially campaigned at super lightweight, earning notable decision wins over Yomar Alamo and Jimerr Espinosa—both of whom fought in Montreal earlier this year. More recently, he moved up to welterweight, capturing the NABO title last November with a fourth-round stoppage of Nicklaus Flaz. Currently ranked No. 11 in the world by both the WBO and IBF, he will look to make a statement in front of his hometown crowd and prove he belongs among the sport’s elite. The #TigerGuerrero bout will take place on a card presented by Top Rank headlined by reigning WBO lightweight world champion Abdullah Mason (20-0, 17 KO), who will make his first title defense against No. 1 contender Joe Cordina (19-1, 9 KO) of the United Kingdom. In the co-main event, WBC featherweight world champion Bruce Carrington (17-0, 10 KOs) will also make his first title defense against undefeated contender Rene Palacios (19-0-1, 10 KO). |
