MIAMI -- Tony Parker drilled a short jumper with 5.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the San Antonio stole Game 1 of the NBA Finals on the road with a 92-88 nail-biter over the defending champions Miami Heat here Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena.
Parker, who finished with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds on 9-for-18 shooting, got plenty of help from a Spurs team that made only 35 of 84 field goal and just 7-of-23 from 3-point range. Tim Duncan had 20 and 14 rebounds while Manu Ginobili had 13. Dannt Green swished swished four threes for 12 points and Kawhi Leonard added 10.
"We were very fortunate. It looked like (Tony) Pharker lost in two or three times. But he stuck with it. He just kept competing,He gained control of it again. He got it off there in rim. Great effort by Tony and as I said, we were very fortunate," Spurs head coach Gregg Poppovich told the media after the game,
LeBron James had a rare triple-double for the Heat -- 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists, but it wasn't enough as the Heat couldn't hold on to an early 9-point lad. The Heat converted 34 of 78 field goals, 18 of 25 triples and a meager 12 of 17 free throws. Dwyane Wade had 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting while Chris Bosh had 13 on a 6-for-16 fare.
Game 2 of this NBA Finals stays at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on Sunday night while Games 3,4 and 5 moves th the AT&T Center in San Antonio. If necessary, the Heat host both Games 6 and 7. (RIC)
