Irma Garcia vs Janeth Perez Rematch April 6 for WBA Women's Bantamweight Title In The FOX Deportes Main Event From Zamora, Mexico

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, April 5 - After scoring one of the biggest upsets of the year in January, Mexico City's Irma "Torbellino" Garcia will look to repeat her victory over Janeth Perez at the El Chamizal Sport Center in Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico on Saturday, April 6 in a highly anticipated rematch for Garcia's WBA Bantamweight Championship to be featured on FOX Deportes in the United States and Televisa in Mexico.

The co-featured bout will be a 12-round fight between Ricardo "Dinamita" Alvarez and Carlos Valdez for Alvarez's WBC Latino super lightweight title.

Garcia vs. Perez is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. CST and the first fight begins at 6:00 p.m. CST. The Televisa broadcast begins at 10:30 p.m. CST, with the FOX Deportes broadcast airing at 10:00 p.m. EDT/7:00 p.m. PDT.

The winner of the reality show "Reto de Campeones" in 2011, Irma Garcia (6-0-1, 1 KO) took that experience to the ring with her in 2012, winning five straight, including a September win over Mexican star Laura Serrano. In January, the southpaw shocked the world by defeating then unbeaten Janeth Perez to capture the WBA title. On April 6, she'll look to repeat history.

One of the top female fighters in the world today, Zapopan's Janeth Perez (17-1-2, 4 KO's) has impressed with her skills in the ring since turning pro in 2008, taking on all comers over the course of her career. In 2011, she became a world champion, defeating Yolis Marrugo Franco for the WBA title which she successfully defended three times. In January, she lost a close decision to Garcia, but this weekend she gets her shot at redemption.

Unbeaten in 10 of his 11 bouts, Guadalajara's Ricardo Alvarez (19-2-3, 12 KO's), who is the older brother of WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez, has been showing the best form of his five-year career as of late, moving him ever closer to a world title opportunity at 140 pounds. In his most recent victory, the 31-year-old Alvarez outpointed hot prospect Mauricio Pintor over 12 rounds to win the WBC Continental Americas title.

Standing in the way of that progress will be Cartagena, Colombia's Carlos Valdez (12-5, 9 KO's), a hard-hitting competitor with the power in both hands to end a fight and who is on a hot streak of his own, having won seven of his last eight.
