Defending Champions high on confidence before decisive quarter-final

PhilBoxing.com

Lausanne, Switzerland, 28 March 2013 - Only two bouts away from the World Series of Boxing (WSB) semi-finals, Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder is looking sharp before hosting Hussars Poland at the Casino Campione of Campione d'Italia this Saturday 30 March (21:00 local time). Having won 4-1 the away match last week, the 2011/2012 Team Champions are full of confidence. But the Hussars have not given up on their hopes. Known for their resilience, they are expected to fight until their last breath.

The Italian Bantamweight (50-54kg) Riccardo d'Andrea is keen on securing a first triumph in WSB after two losses in his debut season. He will face a tough opponent in the shape of Poland's biggest hope, Dawid Pawel Michelus. 19-year-old Michelus has recently defended his national Champion title. He has two WSB victories under his belt and looks in the best shape to overcome his Italian rival.

The Italian Lightweight (57-61kg) icon Domenico Valentino brings into the match a massive experience of three WSB seasons and many international medals. His opponent, the 25-year-old orthodox Damian Wrzesinski has lost his only WSB outing to date. He comes as the underdog with Valentino having the reach and the know-how to take advantage of his weaknesses.

Following on at Middleweight (68-73kg), Italy will be represented by newcomer Valter Fiorucci, a 2004 Junior National Champion who early joined the pro ranks and proved his talent (6-1). He will meet a less experienced opponent, Ireneusz Zakrzewski. The 20-year-old Polish southpaw lost his sole WSB contest to Azerbaijan Baku Fires' Mikalai Vesialou and might suffer from a lack of rhythm in this bout.

Light Heavyweight (80-85kg) Vitaljius Subacius, will then be given the opportunity to display his sublime repertoire of skills when he battles with Hussars' Serhiy Radchenko. The experienced Lithuanian shows an impressive record of six national Champion titles. Radchenko has fewer credentials to impress with and has already lost three times this season. Therefore the Ukraine might have to get extra boxing power in order to stop Subacius. Both are the only foreign fighters lined-up by each team.

The clash of the Heavyweights (91+ kg) will see Thunder's former pro Matteo Modugno taking on Michal Cieslak. The Polish could actually be very dangerous, coming all freshen up from a silver medal at the National Championships. But the odds favour the tall Italian who starts to look comfortable in WSB after back-to-back victories in week five, eight and ten.

In case of a draw on aggregate after ten bouts, this match will be decided by a Bantamweight (50-54kg) tiebreaker between Jahyn Vittorio Parrinello and Grzegorz Kozlowski.
