Argentina surprises Derevyanchenko and Kazakhstan with style (3-2)

PhilBoxing.com

Lausanne, Switzerland, 25 March 2013 - Losing the match as well as the invincibility of their Middleweight superstar, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan will keep a pretty bad memory from their trip to Argentina for this last World Series of Boxing (WSB) quarter-final first leg. Alberto Ezequiel Melian, Brian Casta?o and Yamil Peralta have given a short but key advantage to Argentina Condors, a week before a tense return leg.

First on the ring at Bantamweight (50-54kg), Melian did not know what to expect, facing the most mysterious Arlans of the night, Elik Abdraimov. Controlling the fight all the way with his aggressive style and quick combinations, the Condor has won each and every single round in the opinion of all the judges. With this clean victory, he has extended his WSB record to 3-1 and offered his team great hopes.

The scenario was however completely reversed in the following Lightweight (57-61kg) bout. Forced to jump in at the very last minute to replace injured Juan Javier Carrasco, 19-year-old Ronan Nahuel Sanchez had to deal with the experience of southpaw Samat Bashenov. Clearly dominated during the entire contest, Sanchez had no other choice but to accept the supremacy of his opponent.

Before stepping into the ring of the CEDEM n?2 of Caseros, Buenos Aires, Middleweight (68-73kg) twice Individual Champion Sergiy Derevyanchenko had dispatched all of his 16 previous rivals in WSB. This time is now over. Shocked by the aggressiveness and strong defence of former pro Casta?o, Derevyanchenko has run after the scoreboard for the first two rounds. Coming back slightly in the following two, he then got powerfully counter-attacked from each of his assaults in the fifth round. Setting the venue on fire when he was declared the winner, Casta?o has already left his name in the WSB history.

With six wins, no losses for his first season in WSB, Peralta is already considered as one of the best Light Heavyweight (80-85kg) the league has. Tonight he confirmed his reputation against the experienced and tough Hrvoje Sep from Astana Arlans Kazakhstan. Thanks to his endless energy, the Croatian orthodox fighter always tried to stay as close as possible from Peralta, in order to overcome the 15 centimetres advantage the Argentinean had on him. If that was enough to split the decisions of the judges after each round, that could not prevent the bout to go to the Condors' side.

Ending the night as the underdog, Heavyweight (91+kg) Oscar Ricardo Perez could only expect another big surprise when he faced Mihai Nistor. Suffering from the very first seconds, starting to lose his balance after only one minute in the ring, the Argie finally came back for two minutes in the second round before his corner thrown the towel.

Hosting the return leg this Friday 29 March at the Almaty Towers Business Center, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan knows very well what they are expected to do. In case of a draw on aggregate after ten bouts, this match will be decided by a Middleweight bout.
