Russia to battle Argentina in last match of regular season

PhilBoxing.com

Lausanne, Switzerland, 08 March 2013 - Wrapping up the regular season, Russia host Argentina Condors in World Series of Boxing (WSB) Group A clash this Saturday 9 March (16:00 local time) at the Konti Sport Recreation Center in St Petersburg. Looking to sign off in style, the Russians will be lining-up rangy Maxim Dadashev, European Champion Maxim Koptyakov, enterprising Aleksander Khotyantsev and hard-hitting Maxim Babanin to make the difference.

In the opening contest of the evening, two debutants will be battling each other with Russia's 22-year-old Nazir Balaev set to face orthodox Argentine Khalil Alan Luques Castillo. These two Bantamweights (50-54kg) are unknown quantities at this level so it will be very interesting to see how they fare against each other, with the result always a good indicator of the depth of talent these teams have.

Two tough competitors will then go head-to-head at Lightweight (57-61kg) as Maxim Dadashev, who won his only WSB contest to date, is pitted against hard-hitting Argentine teenager Ronan Nahuel Sanchez. This one will be very difficult to predict with both very evenly match in most departments. The speed of Sanchez might make him slight favourite.

At Middleweight (68-73kg), the fans will be treated to real boxing spectacle when the classy Russian Koptyakov faces untested 18-year-old David Benitez. Power, poise and precision have long since been the hallmark of Koptyakov so he should light up the arena with his skills. The young Argentine will be in the fight of his life.

Aleksander Khotyantsev had impressed in his first WSB outing in week one however came unstuck a few weeks later so will want to prove his employers they were right to stick by him. You can be sure that he will be gunning for victory versus 26-year-old Argentine Isaias Ezequiel Torglele. The Russian Light Heavyweight (80-85kg) does have a devastating right overhead in his arsenal so will look to unload that shot whenever he can. Torglele is a savvy fighter that could spring a surprise.

It will be a rematch of week nine at Heavyweight (91+kg) with Russia's Maxim Babanin once again scheduled to meet flamboyant Argentinean Facundo Cesar Ghiglione. These two enjoy a good scrap and with Babanin set to only have revenge on his mind, it could be a real explosive battle.

If Argentina get a result here, they would pip Hussars Poland into third place in the Group and would then face Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder in the knockout stages.
