Smith and Sakai go face to face for the first time

PhilBoxing.com

If pictures could tell a story, then there certainly was a story to be told at today?s official press conference. Rising featherweight stars Brayd ?The Great White? Smith and Shogo Sakai went face to face ahead of Friday night?s main event on, ?Smithy brings the big fights 3? when they fight for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Youth title at Rumours International.

Smith, a former Australian amateur golden gloves champion, will face his biggest test yet in the ring, in what is set to be both fighters first shot at a professional title. Smith, who is quickly making his mark on the national and international scene, is coming of a stellar 2012 where he went 4-0 with 3 impressive stoppages, said ?I?ve always dreamed of winning a world title, ever since I was a boy and I?ve grown up watching Michael Katsidis and my father on their journey winning titles. This is the first step for me in my career and I?m so honoured to be fighting for my first title, in my home town and I?m ready to show Toowoomba and the world what I am capable of.?

Smith?s trainer and manager Brendon Smith said ?I?m really proud of Brayd, every task I?ve ever put in front of him; he?s never asked any questions. For such a short pro and amateur career, he has accepted all the media and support around him and has handled it very well. He is showing his maturity is well above his age and experience. Shogo is a good fighter, I?ve seen a bit of footage of him, he?s tidy and he is a hungry young fighter at the start of his journey, just like Brayd, They will certainly bring the house down on Friday night.?

Sakai made it short and sweet at the press conference stating, ?I want this belt and I?m going to knock him out.?

Tickets are $75 for ringside and $45 for general and are selling fast at Smithy?s Gym and the Hotel Norville in Toowoomba. Don?t forget the pre fight drinks and after fight party at the Hotel Norville.
