PACQUIAO'S NEXT BIG FIGHT By Robbie Pangilinan PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Mar 2013 ![]() He may not be fighting in the ring anytime soon, but People?s Champ Manny Pacquiao has another big fight ? in Philippine politics. And this time, it is a family affair. The Pambansang Kamao ran and won as Representative of the lone district of Sarangani Province, his wife Jinkee?s hometown, in 2010. This May, he is up for reelection, and he is not the only Pacquiao in the race. Jinkee is running for vice governor of the same province. The beautiful endorser and mother of four was a surprise candidate in the bid for vice governor, deciding to run just on the day of Manny?s filing of his certificate of candidacy for another term as Congressman. Jinkee is running under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and her husband?s People?s Champ Movement (PCM) Party. Manny, who has declared himself a born again Christian last year, said that Jinkee?s decision to run for public office was ?God?s will.? A recent Kampanya Serye edition of ABS-CBN pinned Jinkee against her experienced opponents, but the Pacman?s wife only shrugged it off. ?I respect everybody?s opinion. What matters to me is what God says about me, not men. He knows me and I know him. I trust God. If it?s God?s will for me to win as Vice Governor, so be it,? she said. The recent team-up of Pacquiao?s PCM with Vice President Jejomar Binay?s UNA is an alliance with a political family, the rich and famous Chiongbian clan, who have ruled over Sarangani politics. In 2010, Manny beat a Chiongbian in the 2012 elections. Pacquiao plans to run for the Senate in 2016 and probably for President in 2022. Pacquiao?s brother Rogelio, a barangay captain in General Santos City, will run as representative of South Cotabato. Rogelio is the chairman of Barangay Apopong in Gen San and will face incumbent representative Pedro Acharon Jr. in the 2013 elections. Another Pacquiao, the wife of Manny?s brother Bobby, was elected chair of a barangay in General Santos City in 2010. Will the Pacquiaos come out strong in the May elections and help lift Manny up to the Senate and perhaps Malaca?ang? # Click here to view a list of other articles written by Robbie Pangilinan. ![]() |
