Swifties? squad set to tackle Toowoomba with a Townsville twist

PhilBoxing.com

Well known Townsville trainer and long time boxing affiliate, John ?Swifty? Gregory, a former Australian champion, is confident his boys from the north can get the job done come Friday night. Gregory said, ?Fight Firm lads are fighting fit and ready to rumble, don't think for one minute the local boys are having an easy night, it?s been emotional and we are raring to get on that plane and shake this town up.?

Gregorie?s troopes will take part on ?Smithy brings the big fights 3? at Rumours International on March 8. Both Townsville products, Derreck Webber and Jay Thompson (pictured right), will be taking on two of Toowoomba?s hottest new prospects in Will Young and Kris George.

George, who is trained by Craig Monagle from the trading blows boxing gym in Toowoomba, is confident he can keep the recent run of good form going this Friday night. Having two fights for two knockout wins at the end of 2012, this will be George?s third professional bout and he is beaming with confidence. ?I?m feeling ready for Friday; I?ve done the right training in preparation for the fight. I?m expecting a tough 4 rounder, but I?m hoping to finish it early.?

His trainer, Craig Monagle said, ?Kris has been sparring some great fighters and I?ve got him in the best shape he?s been in for a long time?.

Meanwhile his opponent Jay Thompson said he had no comment for George and is going to let his hands do the talking come Friday night.

In the other Townsville v Toowoomba match up, Will Young is coming off a tough 2012, where he lost two very close bouts and broke his hand in a war with Kyle Tear. Young, who changed camps late last year to train with 3 x World champion trainer, Brendon Smith, said ?I?m the fittest I?ve ever been in my life, I?m hungrier than ever and this time, I?m making sure there will be no judges, this isn?t going the distance.?

Smith added, ?We are up against a southpaw, we know Derrick is a good fighter, he is definitely fit and we are ready for whatever he brings. I know ?Swifty? well and there is no way he?d bring boys that aren?t in good order.?

These fights are part of ?Smithy brings the big fights 3?, March 8 Rumours International.
