Ronda Rousey wins first ever UFC women?s bout
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Feb 2013

History gets written tonight in the world of Mixed Martial Arts when Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche shared the eight sided cage known as The Octagon at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Tonight, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the largest MMA promotional company showcased the first ever fight between two women fighters in its twenty year history.
Rousey, 26, and Carmouche,29, did not only have that distinction, they were also tonight?s main event of the company?s pay-per-view offered, UFC 157 , another first.
Rousey, a former US Olympian medal winner for Judo, maintained his unbeaten record by forcing Carmouche, a marine sergeant, to submit in the first round of their ground breaking fight Saturday night. The Olympic bronze medal winner utilized her signature move, an elbow lock called the armbar, compelling Carmouche to tap in submission.
It was another impressive victory for the popular Rousey, winning her seventh win in another 1st round victory, just like her previous six professional fights.
But the fight proved harder than expected for her, as the game and tough Carmouche almost had her via another submission move, the rear naked choke, in the early goings of Round 1.
Rousey escaped from the hold and delivered big punches on Carmouche while on the ground. She then maneuvered her way on top of her opponent and secured her opponent?s arm with her patented move. Carmouche tried to fight the armbar but to no avail, tapping in the dying seconds of the round.
The win officially made Ronda Rousey the first ever UFC women?s champ, a historic feat for the fast rising star of Mixed Martial Arts.
