NBA -- Grizzlies end Kings' two game winning streak By Alberto G. Montefalcon, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Feb 2013 ![]() SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento Kings' winning streak abruptly ended at two games Tuesday night when they were stopped on their tracks by the Memphis Grizzlies, 108-101, at the FedEx Forum in downtown Memphis. Having been badly beaten by the same Grizzlies twice already this season, the Kings put up a decent fight in their third encounter and trailed only 58-55 at the half,, but a 16-6 Grizzlies run to end the third quarter proved to be a lethal, deadly strike. "A piece of a quarter. Maybe three minutes, four minutes here, couple of mistakes, breakdowns, and that cost us the game right there," Sacramento head coach Keith Smart told the Sacramento Bee about that fateful stretch in the final 5:48 of the third quarter where the Grizzlies turned a slim one-point lead into an 84-73 bubble entering the fourth quarter. Marc Gasol finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds to pace Memphis while point guard Mike Conley Jr chipped in 22 and seven assists. Defensive specialist Tony Allen had a rare offensive explosion with 19 points and eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, who sank 41 of 75 field goals and six of 13 three-point shots. The Grizzlies coughed up five more turnovers than the Kings' 14, but Memphis narrowly won the rebounds battle, 39-36, and they had one more assist, 21-20. Once again, center Demarcus Cousins was at the forefront of the Kings' attack with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Tyreke Evans contributed 20 and seven rebounds. Sacramento, which got 15 each from Jason Thompson and Marcus Thornton, shot just 46.5 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range. At 33-18, the Grizzlies stayed at second place in the Southwest Division behind the 39-13 Oklahoma City Thunder. No.13th in the entire Western Conference, the Kings fell to 19-34.
