MERLITO SABILO: ON A CAREER CROSSROAD PhilBoxing.com Wed, 13 Feb 2013  ?Big things come in small packages?. So the saying goes... and that is just what another promising Filipino boxer is proving to be, as he rallies to dominate the boxing world?s lightest weight division. Despite his diminutive feature, Merlito Sabillo, one of ALA Promotions? fastest rising boxer to date has been making big waves in the local boxing scene. The undefeated Sabillo who holds an impressive 21W (10KOs)-0L-0D card, is set to step into the World Boxing Arena as he is slated to fight Colombia?s Luis dela Rosa 21W (12 KOs)-1L-1D for the interim WBO minimumweight title. The fight is set on March 9, 2013 at dela Rosa?s turf Colombia. The 29 year-old Sabillo is optimistic and is working very hard at the ALA gym in Cebu as he braces himself for his first fight abroad. The fight will prove to be a litmus test for the native of Toboso, Negros Occidental, after demolishing all his local contenders in the Philippines. ?I am excited and have prepared myself mentally, physically and emotionally. The fact that we have to travel halfway across the globe for this fight is quite overwhelming but if that?s what it takes, we will be ready.? Though he turned pro when he was already 24 years old with no boxing background up until he was 21, Sabillo proved his detractors wrong when he practically demolished every opponent out there and putting himself at the pinnacle spot in his division. He expressed gratitude for the support that he?s been getting from his promoter ALA Promotions. ?Much has changed since I started boxing, after joining ALA Promotions I believe I am a more mature athlete now ,I have learned a lot of things, I learned the value of hard work and how important it is to make the most, of a chance that is given to you. I guess that is why I am more determined now, more than ever, to prove my worth as a boxer.
