Michael Farenas possible for Rios vs. Alvarado 2
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Fri, 01 Feb 2013

It looks like Michael Farenas will be going back to Las Vegas pretty soon.
The 28 year old fighter from Gubat, Sorsogon is being eyed by Top Rank CEO Bob Arum to be a part of the Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado rematch which is scheduled for March 30, 2012 at The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This is according to his manager-promoter, former two time world champion, Gerry Penalosa.
?Farenas might fight (on) March 30 in the Rios-Alvarado card in Vegas,? Penalosa told Philboxing.com.
The boxer turned manager-promoter spoke to Arum yesterday (1/31) and relayed the latter?s interest of including Farenas in the card.
Farenas last fought on December 8, 2012 against Yuriorkis Gamboa as the co-headliner of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez IV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He showed toughness against the unbeaten Cuban star in a 12 round battle for an interim Super Featherweight title.
Farenas, despite getting knocked down twice in the fight and fighting with cuts on both of his eyes, showed grit and toughness against Gamboa. He was able to deliver a knockdown of his own, sending the Cuban Olympian to the canvas in the 9th round of their entertaining 12 round title fight.
Farenas earned admiration after that brave showing last December and his fans are eager to see him back in the ring.
Gerry Penalosa said that he will be in constant communication with Top Rank?s matchmaker, Brad Goodman about Farenas? next opponent and other details regarding the planned fight.
Farenas is nonetheless training already at Penalosa?s boxing gym in Manila for two weeks now under the watchful eyes of Carl Penalosa, Gerry?s brother and who is also a former boxer himself.
