Poland host Mexico with victory vital at this point

PhilBoxing.com

Lausanne, Switzerland, 15 January 2013 - With the visit of Mexico Guerreros for this Group A clash, Hussars Poland will be banking on their boxers coming good and ensuring maximum points in front of their expectant fans this Friday 18 January (20:00 local time). With the Mexican line-up a formidable one, Poland are turning to Dawid Pawel Michelus, Adil Aslanov, Sergei Kuzmin and pro boxer Mateusz Malujda to deliver at the Hala Znicz in Pruszkow.

Up first will be Bantamweight (50-54kg) pair Michelus and 19-year-old Mexican southpaw Aaron Alameda Lopez. The Polish orthodox teenager put in a good performance in his only previous World Series of Boxing (WSB) outing, when he lost by split decision to London Olympian Mohamed Ouadahi, so will be keen to now claim his maiden win. Alameda Lopez will seek to overcome his height deficit by working the inside, like he did so well in his previous victory this campaign.

The much anticipated return to the competition of accomplished Belarusian Vazgen Safaryants is sure to spice up proceedings during the Lightweight (57-61kg) contest. Mexico's newest recruit will be matched up with orthodox Pole Adil Aslanov and will be hoping to extend his WSB record to 9-1. Safaryants, a southpaw, has delighted fans of the two previous teams he has represented with his all-action displays, so it will be a tough night for Aslanov, who will have to box at his very best if he is to claim anything from the fight.

It will be very evenly matched in the Middleweight (68-73kg) bout between Poland's Mateusz Jerzy Tryc and Mexico's 21-year-old Irishman Conrad Cummings. With pride at stake, expect the two to come all-guns blazing as they both try and record their first WSB career victory.

Tryc told us, "True, I lost my two last fights in Argentina and Mexico but I learnt a lot and have been preparing very hard for this next one. My coach and I have watched a lot of Cummings videos so I am familiar with his style now. I feel well prepared both physically and mentally. It will be a very interesting bout, guaranteed. I come from the region where the match is taking place so there will be many of my family members and friends there; it will help me and motivate me tremendously".

Impressive Belarusian Kuzmin will be looking to extend his unbeaten run for the Hussars when he battles Mexico's 21-year-old Albanian Christian Demaj at Light Heavyweight (80-85kg). Kuzmin has notched up two wins so far this season and will look for his third on the trot when he faces his rival who has yet to be tested at this level.

Bringing the show to a close, the Heavyweight (91+kg) contest between Poland's fearsome pro fighter Malujda and larger-than-life Puerto Rican Gerardo Bisbal is sure to bring the house down. The 30-year-old orthodox Pole comes with a major reputation, a pure brawler that enjoys inflicting maximum damage on his opponent. The Guerreros' Bisbal is deceptively fast for his frame size so it will be very intriguing to see how these two get on in the ring.

It will be difficult for both teams in this one with so much at stake. Mexico have looked very good so far this season but Poland have been strong at home, so it will be close.
