'Milenyo' To Wreck Havoc on Nov. 24 PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Nov 2006 Not a few months ago, super typhoon ?Milenyo? struck Metro Manila and devastated the metropolis in one of its worst disasters. In a separate environment and in a different venue, another turmoil hit the boxing circle with a destructive blow as newcomer Milan Melindo of ALA Stable struck mayhem and knocked out the durable Ricardo Albia with a one-sided blow in a spectacular show of force at the Mandaue Sports Complex last October 21, 2006. On that night, a newcomer and fast-rising human dynamo was christened, Milan ?MILENYO? Melindo. The diminutive 21-year old native of Cagayan de Oro City, Melindo will once again display his explosive fists when he collides with Rommel Bongon of Manila, one of the stellar supporting casts of the WBO Asia-Pacific championship fight of Donnie Nietes and Heri Amol of Indonesia on Friday, November 24 at the Mandaue Sports Complex. Still undefeated in 7 fights, the stylish Melindo is becoming a hot commodity in the boxing circle because of his fast hands and air-tight defense as well as his formidable punching power. Boxing experts with the likes of Quinito Henson of Philippine Star and Ronnie Nathanielsz of Manila Standard have expressed their admiration on the skills and potential of the talented youngster. International promoter Sammy Gello-ani in assessing the attributes of Melindo said, ?Milan has the making of another ALA Villamor because of his charisma and exciting style ? more so that Villamor handles his training chores.? Melindo will be facing a veteran journeyman who has never been stopped in 18 fights and boasts of a 7-8-3 win-loss-draw fight record. Completing this boxing showdown will be 7 other exciting bouts. Sharing the limelight in the main supporting cast together with Milan Melindo is another ALA boy, Along Denoy. This young pugilist from Candijay, Bohol will be facing Aljun Salogaol of Jaca Stable. Sporting a 28 fight record with 20 wins, 6 losses, 1 draw with 12 of his victories by way of knockout, Denoy recently came from a championship fight against reigning Philippine Light Flyweight champion, Sonny Boy Jaro, which incidentally ended in a draw due injuries incurred by Denoy. Opening bouts will feature Leon Maratas against Lotlot Gaviola, Jessie Albaracin against Edmund Velayo, Nic Banal against Brix ?Bomb? Ray, Weng Haya against Alfredo Balabat and Franklin Albia against Romano Gelig. Special attraction will figure in upcoming knockout artist Joseph Omanz against Rey Las Pi?as in a 4-round tiff. |
