HALL of famer Efren "Bata" Reyes and Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo continue to sizzle in the 37th Annual U.S.Open 9-Ball Championship on Thursday (Friday in Manila Time) at the Holiday Inn Virginia Beach - Norfolk Convention Center in Virginia, USA.

The 58-year-old Reyes, top player of Puyat Sports, toppled Darren Appleton of Great Britain, 11-10, and Wang Can of China, 11-7, respectively to stay in the winner?s bracket. The 34-year-old Orcollo, top player of Bugsy Promotions, meantime defeated Mike Davis of the USA,11-5, and Niels Feijen of the Netherlands, 11-8, in order. Thus, Reyes and Orcollo will meet each other in the sixth round of winner's brackets on Friday (Saturday in Manila Time).

"Magandang bakbakan ang pagtatapat nina Efren (Reyes) at Dennis (Orcollo). Isa't-isa ang labanan kung sino ang buwenas ay y'un ang mananalo kasi 9-ball ang event. Kaso malungkot lamang tayo kasi aasahan na naman nating isang Filipino ang malalagay sa loser's brackets," said Orcollo's long-time manager Ceferino "Perry" Mariano, top honcho of Bugsy Promotions.

"Panalangin lamang natin na Filipino ang mag-uwi ng US Open 9-ball crown," added Philippine Billiards God Father Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, long-time supporter of Reyes.

Archer outclassed Brandon Shuff of the USA, 11-2, and Albin Ouschan of Austria, 11-3.

The 63-year-old Parica, dubbed as the leader of the Filipino invasion in the US pool circuit in the mid 80's, waylaid Raj Hundal of India, 11-10, and Earl "The Pearl" Strickland of the USA, 11-5. He will square off with Jayson Shaw of the USA, who brought downed Jason Klatt of Canada, 11-7, and Corey Deuel of the USA, 11-8.

The 40-year-old Alcano, meanwhile smashed Mika Immonen of Finland, 11-4, and Li He-wen of China, 11-4, to slug it out against Shane Van Boening of the USA, who outpointed Nick Van Den Berg of the Netherlands, 11-4, and Chris Melling of Great Britain, 11-4.

In the loser's brackets, Warren "Warrior"Kiamco and Carlo "The Black Tiger" Biado lost in a tightly-fought encounter.
