GA YOUNG KIM of Korea is this year's Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship winner. She bested Siming Chen of China, 10-5, in the finals on Friday at the Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas enroute the top prize $21,000.
Chen defeated countryman Xiao Fang Fu, 9-6, in an all Chinese semi-finals to reach the finals.
Kim, who has come close to winning the World 10-Ball, with a Silver in 2010 and Bronze in 2011, routed compatriot Yu Ram Cha, 9-5, in an all Korean Final Four to clinch the other finals berth.
"This is a big deal to me. I?ll be honest, I want to win this more than any title I?ve ever won or played for in my life," said Chen through an interpreter.
Chen earlier nipped Ho Yun Chan of Taiwan, 8-7, Kim waylaid 2010 World 10-ball queen Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, 8-5, Fu outclassed Sha Sha Liu of China, 8-6, and Cha nipped L.H. Shan of Taiwan, 8-4.
Shan is responsible booting out lone Filipino hopeful Rubilen Amit, 8-2, in the Last 16.
Amit reached the Final 16 after edging countryman Cheska Centeno, 8-5, in the Last 24. Another Filipino bet Iris Ranola failed to reach the knock-out stage after a poor showing in her group play.
"I'am really proud to be a part of this event. We consider this to be the most beautiful action in pool! So much talent and beauty in one place, it's unbelievable. Lot's of awesome shotmaking and unparalleled safety play," said Lorenz Laureola, Tournament Director of Yalin WW10BC.
