PhilBoxing.com

Former Philippine Olympic team member and 2-time SEA Games Silver medallist, Mark Jason Melligen trades mitts with Ariel Salva?a of Cagayan de Oro City this October 21, 2006 at the Mandaue Sports Complex.

Heading the main supporting bouts in the SGG Sports Promotions boxing event, ?WAR IN THE RING?, the former amateur standout will be climbing the ring for the 5th time since turning pro last April of this year.

Now fighting in the junior welterweight division, this Bacolod City native has already accumulated 4 wins all by knockouts ? three of which ending in the first canto.

His most recent fight was an impressive showing of boxing skills by the former bemedalled amateur against the visiting Indonesian Michael Tarsius, finally pummeling to submission the tough Indonesian in the 3rd stanza.

Figuring in one of the special attraction bouts is another amateur standout-turned-professional, Milan Melindo from Puerto, Cagayan de Oro.

The young dynamo, well liked for his no-holds barred fistic abilities, has already tucked in an immaculate fight record of 6 wins with 1 kayo. Melindo will be facing veteran journeyman Ricardo Albia in their October 21st showdown.

This highly anticipated boxing event is another part of the ?STARS OF THE FUTURE? boxing series of the country?s immenent sports channel, Solar Sports in cooperation with Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum.

?We are happy to be partners with Solar Sports and Tanduay,? enthuses international promoter, Sammy ?Don King? Gello-ani. ?This is another avenue for us to promote our country?s promising pugilists ? to show that the Philippines is filled with talent who will follow Manny Pacquiao,? continues Gello-ani.

The first boxing promotion dubbed as ?STARS OF THE FUTURE? made its debut showing in Tagbilaran City last July 2, 2006 featuring two of ALA stable?s young stalwarts, AJ Banal and Robert Allanic who each overcame their counterparts from Thailand. Solar Sports provided television coverage for the said event as it will again in the October 21st boxing showdown.

Melligen and Melindo will add luster to the already action-packed mega-boxing event headed by WBO No. 1 Super Fly contender, Z ?The Dream Gorres and undefeated young boxing star, AJ Banal.

Opening bouts will include Mandaue City?s very own pugilists, Joseph Omanz and Fernando Otik. Omanz will be fighting Tata Galendez in his second professional outing while Otik will be fighting Elmer Colve of Cagayan de Oro City.

Tickets are now on sale at USA Sports outlets in Ayala and SM Malls and at the ALA Fight Club at the Banilad Town Center at the following prices: P 500 - VIP/Sponor, P 300 ? Ringside, P 200 ? Lower Seat and P 100 ? General Admission.
