WBO 115 LBS. SCENARIO IF NARVAEZ VACATES TITLE AND CHALLENGES DONAIRE

PhilBoxing.com

According to a recent report by respected boxing writer, Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com, unbeaten Omar Andres Narvaez of Argentina is being strongly considered as the next opponent to challenge WBC and WBO bantamweight titleholder Nonito Donaire on Oct. 22 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KOs) is the current champion in the superflyweight division of the World Boxing Organization (WBO). If and when he vacates his title and moves up in weight to challenge Donaire (26-1-0, 18 KOs), El Hurac?n attempts to be a 3-division world champion.

Pursuant to the REGULATIONS OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS:

?SECTION 20. PROCEDURE WHEN A TITLE IS DECLARED VACANT (a) xxx In the case that a World Championship is declared vacant, the two Best Classified Contenders Available as determined by the Championship Committee shall be granted a period not to exceed thirty (30) days to negotiate a contract for the vacant World Championship or an Interim World Championship, as the case may be with a duly qualified promoter. xxx?

The following are the top 15 contenders in the August 2011 ratings of the WBO in the superflyweight class:

1. Isack Junior (Asia-Pacific), INDONESIA
2. Jose Cabrera, MEXICO
3. Roberto Domingo Sosa, ARGENTINA
4. Jack Mark Apolinario, PHILIPPINES
5. Cesar Seda, Jr., PUERTO RICO
6. Daniel Rosa (WBO Youth), MEXICO
7. Juan Mercedes (Latino Int.), DOMINICAN REP.
8. Johnny Garcia (Latino), MEXICO
9. Alfred Tetteh (WBO Africa), GHANA
10. Kwannpichit 13 Rien Express (Oriental), THAILAND
11. Juan Carlos Sanchez, MEXICO
12. Kenji Oba, JAPAN
13. Drian Francisco, PHILIPPINES
14. Jerwin Ancajas (Asia Pacific youth), PHILIPPINES
15. Takuya Kogawa, JAPAN

No. 1 contender Isack Junior (17-1-2, 8 KOs) of Indonesia is the current WBO Asia-Pacific champion winning the vacant regional diadem in his latest fight on March 27 against Filipino Joel Rafols. Mexican Jose ?Matador? Cabrera (20-2-1, 8 KOs), who is ranked 2nd, last fought on June 18 against Omar Lina.

Based on the present circumstances, the above-mentioned top 2 contenders in the WBO 115 lbs. division will be available to fight each other either for the vacant title or its interim version, as may be determined by the WBO leadership. However, in the event that one or both of them expresses his unavailability for whatever reason, the WBO will go down the line of contenders to fill the expected void should Narvaez accepts the offer of Top Rank, Inc., Donaire?s promoter.

The quest of Narvaez to become a 3-division world champion will be welcome development not only to the WBO-ranked fighters to become a world champion. The Argentine?s ambition will also give the promoters of these contenders to stage a world championship fight in their respective countries.
