A Cebuano web developer from Talisay City is the recepient of one of the highest awards the Cebu sportswriting fraternity will be handing out this year.

Dong Secuya, chief architect of the world-famous Pacland website www.mannypacquiao.ph, finally gets due recognition from all the sacrifices he made as he is set to receive the prestigious ORLACSAN Memorial Award in the 24th Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC)-San Miguel Corporation (SMC) All-Cebu Sports Awards on March 25 at Casino Espa?ol.

Secuya has been unanimously voted to get the award by the sportswriters from the three local papers present during the thorough deliberation presided over by SAC president Rick C. Gabuya and witnessed by Girlie Garces of event backer San Miguel Corporation yesterday at the Laguna Garden Cafe.

Given in memory of the late Orlando C. Sanchez, a legend in the annals of Cebu sportswriting, the ORLACSAN Memorial Award is given to an individual who has contributed to the development of Cebu sports in his own unique and creative way even up to the extent of using his own resources.

And that is exactly what Secuya has done since he launched the www.mannypacquiao.ph website in July 2003. At that time, Pacquiao has not yet entered the hallowed portals of fame and the pedestal of success.

Secuya said he was motivated to design a web page for Pacman fans when he got irked one time while visiting the website of Mexican star Marco Antonio Barrera only to find that Filipinos where shooed away from surfing the site.

"I browsed upon the web page of Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Barrera and I noticed the Mexicans looked down the Filipinos because Pacquiao doesn't have a website. I was challenged by that so I decided to create a website for Pacquiao. Afterall, this is my line of work," said Secuya.

In a span of three years, the Pacland website is now a global phenomenon that has generated a cult-like following from millions of boxing fans around the globe.

Seeing the www.mannypacquiao.ph as the most visited site for a boxer on the internet today is surely an object of delight for Secuya.

Driven by his passionate desire, Secuya delivered his second baby in April last year, the philboxing.com - a thing he created due to public demand.

"Boxing fans believe that there is a need to feature the other Filipino boxers because Manny Pacquiao is not the only boxer in the country so I decided to create philboxing.com," said Secuya.

Philboxing.com offers a detailed and comprehensive fight records, photos, news articles, and fight schedule of Filipino boxers with access to other web pages.

It can't be denied that philboxing.com has become an effective channel for the Filipino boxers to be known abroad. Through this web page, boxing scouts, managers, and agents abroad now have an easy access in spotting for potential Filipino talents they could deal with.

Www.mannypacquiao.ph and philboxing.com somehow were the intangible forces that provided good luck, encouragement, and moral support to Pacquiao in every big fight he undertakes and every challenge he faces.

For that, Dong Secuya rightfully deserves a badge of honor he will cherish for a lifetime.
