Batang Mandaue and Filipino Bomber? The Quest Continues!

PhilBoxing.com

East Coast ? In an interview with Batang Mandaue yesterday that lasted 1hr 41min. He told me that he accepted a date in the ring with Wisanu Kokietgym of Thailand. The fight will be in Thailand, June 3, for the WBA Interim Light Flyweight championships.

Kokietgym has a record of 37W-12KOs-7L-2D, he was knocked out 5 times. He surrendered to Z Gorres in 2006 via 4th round TKO at the Mandaue Sports Complex for the OPBF Super Flyweight (115lbs) eliminator. Sounds unimpressive, but Mayol should bring his A game for 2 reasons, 1. Kokietgym is on a roll, he?s having a 20 winning streak momentum on his back right now; 2. The fight will be in Thailand, close fights means Kokietgym will win.

Mayol told me that he will do his training in Philippines. He signed the contract yesterday (Mar 10, ?11) that the Don King of Philippines brokered the fight for Mayol.

"I have to put more emphasis on my boxing skills for this fight," Mayol said who is planning to train with Manny in Baguio. He?ll ask Nonoy Neri or Buboy Fernandez to handle his training if they are available. Mayol will fly this weekend.

Mayol recalled, when he was still a youngster, he used to be a ballboy at the Mandaue Tennis Plaza, he washed jeepneys/taxis. He played basketball everyday, and fights almost everyday. "I was always in the losing end cause I was very small, then I decided to train in boxing so I can retaliate," he said. But Batang Mandaue never realized that that was the beginning of an illustrious career. He won multiple national championships and twice as amateur boxer of the year. Not to mention, he became a World Champion.

He remembered when 'Sir ALA' (Antonio L. Aldeguer) took him on his stable. "It was the first time that I looked like a human being, I have nice clothes (USA Sports, Loalde, Bisaya Espesyal), good food and lots of fun in training. So this fight is for Sir ALA."

Looking back at Mayol?s last fight, he was very strong in the 1st, 2nd to the 3rd qtr of the 12 round fight. Then he lost steam in the 4th qtr (from 10-12 rd). So aside from boxing skills, Mayol should put more emphasis on his endurance training also. Techniques are already there, heart and will to win is still there and he is still hungry for more recognition especially there in our own country. In other words, shoot for 15 rounds in training and you finish strong, 12 rounds is nothing.

Filipino Bomber Glenn Donaire

So my good friend, my kumpare Glenn The Filipino Bomber Donaire is very excited to come back and pursue his dream. He texted me, ?I am very happy, problem free right now. My entire family is behind me, my uncles cousins, just everybody is supporting for my comeback fight. Very excited to train, I run everyday, Junjun promised to help me and put me on his card."

Hey, let me answer about the Drama for the last time: should I get mad when she blamed me that I instigated the rift within the family? First of all I did not instigate, I was just a true messenger. Once I saw my friend the Senior weeping his tears of joy, and Nanay Imelda preaching about the grace of forgiveness on her Facebook, I guess I delivered my point that ?Nonito had a hard life, but his hardships are nothing against the hardships that his father went through in order to get him to where he started and to where he is at right now.?

If my friends Nanay Imelda and Nonito Sr. are content and happy right now, do I have the right to answer the blamings? Not me, cause I?m ready to clap these two hands, the left and the right and cheer for the fighting brothers again! I repeat, AGAIN I cheer for Nonito Jr and Glenn.

I remembered Glenn told me, "My father used to play with my brothers and me in the yard. Nanay would come out and say,
'You're tearing up the grass'; 'We're not raising grass,' my father would answer, 'We're raising boys.'"

Oh!BeerTime!!!

So Miami Heat cried after they lost to the Bulls, then the resurging Blazers are for real, they have answers of all the Heat?s offensives? Batum is an ideal player whom coaches love on their roster, young, long arms, play A- defense and can finish the fastbreak?as for Miami, though they won against the Lakers, what they did? They let Bosh be aggressive down low, that?s it, nothing special? but my question is, can Bosh sustain that kind of play? His body is for 15 footer jumper, he is not built like a charles Barkley, not a Malone? I will not change my argument, Heat win games, but not intended for a grinding conference finals and mostly not for the NBA Finals? THEY ARE SOFT? I like Judah in 140lbs. the talent is superb, just maintain gas, go to church (as Whitaker claimed) and focus with new trainer Whitaker? I bet he can beat wide swinger Timothy Bradley? Amir Khan ? Judah will be interesting? if we remembered, Judah almost knockdown Mayweather, but Judah lost steam after 5th round, but for sure if that fight is scheduled for 5 rounds, that would be a shutout for Judah? that is how talented this guy from Brooklyn NY is? Moreno don?t have business with Nonito inside the ring, his power is almost zero, he can box but he cant make damage? maybe a good collection of belt for Nonito, but Moreno is no threat? Agbeko and Mares will be a good one for Donaire, tall guys with power, that makes a good fight I think? I heard that the Heat needs a disciplinarian coach, and the last thing I heard, Jerry Sloan is unemployed? Belated Happy Birthday to Wenefredo Abellana a realtor there in Cebu you can contact him at his facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100001416984027.... Lastly, RIP to Rodrigo Salaud, the founding Secretary General of World Boxing Council and the former PBA commissioner. Condolence to the Salud Family.
