Manila, Philippines - World Boxing Organization executive Leon Panoncillo Jr., a Fil-Am based in Hawaii, has arrived in time for the February 19 clash between Filipino youth prospect Froilan Saludar and Thailand?s Leimpetch Sor Veerapol for the vacant WBO Youth world flyweight Championship at the Imus, Cavite Covered Court promoted by SGG Sports Promotions and hosted by the City Government, headed by Mayor Homer Saquilayan and Municipalty of Imus. Aside from overseeing the bout, Panoncillo will also oversee the official weigh-in as well as the rules briefing for the officials who will work the Saludar-Veerapol Youth world championship showdown. In a conversation with Panoncillo yesterday, he informed that the WBO had a great start overseeing recent championship bouts in Thailand and Indonesia in the start of the New Year and it is looking positive for 2011. ?We doubled the activity last year and there have been many more interested WBO Asia Pacific promoters this year that have inquired about promoting our WBO regional belts. However, to keep our prestige of our regional title, it is also important that the quality of the participants vying for the title fits our criteria for approval and in return fighters who do win our regional are right away placed in the top15 accordingly in our world ranking. This is what managers and promoters wants to see with their investment and they are seeing results after winning our regional titles and getting opportunity in world championship fights," Panoncillo said. Meanwhile, Panoncillo informed that on February 19th besides the anticipated showdown between Froilan Saludar and Leimpetch Sor Veerapol for the WBO Youth World championship in Imus, on that same day, Filipino promoter Engr. Ariel Araja of Manila, Philippines will also be promoting his prospect Rey Perez against John Paul Bautista of Aljoe Jaro boxing stable for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth Flyweight championship at the Brgy Balibago Sta Rosa Laguna. ?I do encourage up-start Youth prize fighters to start utilizing these Youth titles for experience and exposure, this is what it is designed for, it will build their momentum before getting into the main stream of regional titles,?
