PETER "KID CHOCOLATE" QUILLIN AND DENNIS SHARPE SET TO BATTLE ON FEBRUARY 11 ON TELEFUTURA'S "S?LO BOXEO TECATE"

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, February 2 - Golden Boy Promotions and Don Chargin Productions will be bringing a bit of East Coast flavor to the Sports Center in Fairfield, Calif. as unbeaten New Yorker Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin squares off against New Jersey's Dennis Sharpe in the eight round super middleweight main event of TeleFutura's "S?lo Boxeo Tecate" on Friday, February 11.

In the co-main event, Fairfield's Alan Sanchez faces Denver's John Grimaldo in an eight round welterweight bout. Also featured will be Albuquerque welterweight prospect Fidel Maldonado Jr. and Fairfield's own junior featherweight prospect Manuel Avila.

Quillin vs. Sharpe, an eight round bout which headlines a night of world-class professional boxing, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Don Chargin Productions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. The doors open at 6:00pm and the first bell rings at 7:00pm and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / PT (10:30pm CT).

Tickets, priced at $30, $40 and $60, are available now for purchase at Paco's Restaurant by calling 530-669-7946.

Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cintur?n Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.

Charismatic rising star Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (22-0, 16 KO's) took the New York fight scene by storm when he made his debut in 2005 and over the next three years, he defeated all comers as he earned recognition as one of the game's top prospects. Injuries sidelined him for nearly two years, but in 2010, he made a triumphant return with wins over Fernando Zuniga (W10) and Martin Desjardins (KO1). Now back where he left off in 2008, Quillin, who adopted his "Kid Chocolate" nickname in tribute to the great Eligio Sardinias as well as his Cuban father and heritage, is beginning his run towards the top of the division.

Jersey City, New Jersey native Dennis Sharpe (17-5-3, 5 KO's) has been a longtime East Coast favorite who has traded punches with the likes of Giovanni Lorenzo, Andy Lee, Pawel Wolak and Ronald Hearns. Given his previous opposition, Sharpe feels that there is nothing that the unbeaten Quillin can throw his way that he hasn't seen before and believes he has what it takes to issue this young gun his first professional defeat.

Popular 19-year-old prospect Alan Sanchez (6-2-1, 2 KO's) has been put in tough since the start of his professional career in 2009, but that's just the way he likes it. Winner of a bout against 11-0-1 prospect Alberto Morales on March 20 last year, Sanchez turned up the heat in the second half of 2010, dropping unbeaten Luis Enrique Grajeda twice before being forced to settle for a draw and then decisioned 65-fight veteran Cristian Favela. Looking forward to a big 2011, Sanchez begins the year with a fight against power puncher John Grimaldo (6-0, 5 KO's) of Denver, Colorado who looks to keep his undefeated record intact by taking out the hometown favorite.

Winner of 118 amateur bouts, Albuquerque's Fidel Maldonado Jr. (7-0, 6 KO's) has been crushing professional opponents with just as much success. The winner of six bouts in his first full year as a professional, Maldonado hopes to nab his sixth first round knockout when he faces an opponent to be named on February 11.

It was smooth sailing for Fairfield's Manuel Avila (1-0) in his professional debut last November when he shut out Alexis Hernandez over four rounds at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. On February 11, the popular amateur star will look for his second professional win against Bakersfield's Jose Garcia (0-2), but this time he'll do it in front of his family, friends and hometown fans in his native Fairfield.

Tecate, cerveza con car?cter, is the largest beer brand to sponsor boxing matches in the U.S. Part of its commitment to make boxing accessible to consumers is the title sponsorship of "S?lo Boxeo Tecate," which creates an opportunity for local fans to witness some of the most exhilarating fights by today's up-and-coming prospects. Additionally, Tecate has been a primary supporter of Golden Boy Promotions' marquee events since 2007, and has launched a variety of initiatives to ensure consumers are part of the boxing experience, including boxer autograph signing sessions, commemorative cans, PPV mail-in rebate offers, and most recently the launch of a mobile museum "Tecate Museo de Boxeo," which showcases decades of the most memorable moments in the sport.
