WITH MOTORBIKE IN TOW, BAUTISTA ARRIVES IN BOHOL!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 03 Jan 2006
Moments ago, WBO Asia-Pacific bantam champ Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista arrived in Candijay, Bohol to the warm reception of adoring Boholanos who all take pride in the province's most famous son's recent conquest in California, USA.
Bautista, who was accompanied by promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, was welcomed by Candijaynons hours after he paid a courtesy call on Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado.
He arrived early morning the other day in Manila, and immediately proceeded to the Manila City Hall where Mayor Lito Atienza, who had declared him an "adopted son of Manila", warmly congratulated him for decisioning Mexican Gerardo Espinoza last December 23 after kissing the canvas himself in the second round.
In Tagbilaran City this afternoon, Bautista showed his soft heart, as he bought a brand-new Honda XRM 110CC bike from Du Ek Sam, Inc which he had promised his parents as a present should he come out victorious in the fight.
"Naa gikarga ang motor sa likod sa sakyanan. Naka palit jud ko sa akong paningkamot sir," (It's now at the back of the pick-up truck. I've finally bought one after my sacrifices, sir), Bautista said.
The 19-year-old Bautista, born to poor farming parents in Candijay, started out as a wood gatherer before joining the amateur ranks in Bohol, where he was eventually discovered by Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, who now manages him.
