GLENN GONZALES BEATEN IN ACTION-PACKED FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 15 Aug 2010 Filipino southpaw Glenn ?Rapid Fire? Gonzales, the 25 year old lived up to his nickname with quick combinations that helped him win six of his last seven fights but his clash with undefeated junior welterweight Carlos Molina at the Sports Arena in Pico Rivera not far from the undefeated Golden Boy fighter?s hometown added one more loss to his resume. Gonzales who belonged to the Braveheart Boxing stable of former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol battled undefeated Carlos Molina all the way but a cut suffered by Gonzales on his right eyelid due to an accidental clash of heads in round three caused problems and in the end Gonzales retired in the fifth round. It was a give-and-take affair while it lasted with first Molina and then Gonzales appearing to have the upperhand in the opening rounds but the cut appeared to turn the fight in favor of the 24 year old Molina who, with the win, improved to 13-0 with 7 knockouts while Gonzales dropped to 8-2-1 with 4 knockouts. The cut didn't appear to bother Gonzales but in the fourth round Molina cheered on by his hometown fans began to put pressure on the Filipino who refused to back off and traded punches although Molina got the better of the exchanges. Gonzales continued to engage Molina in round five but the undefeated Californian finished the round with a flurry of punches that seemed to take the fight out of Gonzales who was wincing in pain when the fight was called off at 3:00 of the fifth round. A former national amateur champion Molina from Commerce, California is known for his fan friendly style and guarantees excitement whenever he enters the ring just like Gonzales. However, Molina who is promoted by Golden Boy used his well known hand-speed and accuracy to get the better of Gonzales..
