PHILBOXING BREAKING NEWS: SULTAN LOSES TO PABA CHAMP

Minutes ago, RP welterweight champ Dondon Sultan failed anew to win a regional crown as he lost on a unanimous decision to Pan Asian Boxing Association 147-lb king Pakphum Chengphonak yesterday in Bangkok, Thailand.
Promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani, who accompanied Sultan in Thailand, said yesterday moments after the fight that although his ward had put the Thai in dire straits in the second and seventh round, apparently it was not enough to gain the three judges' nod.
"His opponent was groggy in the 2nd and 7th round, but they would cut short the time each time," said Gello-ani, no stranger to Thailand's queer boxing landscape and notorious hometown decisions.
It was Sultan's third loss in as many tries for a regional title.
In 2003, he lost on a highly-disputable split decision verdict to Hiroshi Watanabe in his first crack for the OPBF title. Then, last July 21, he absorbed a stinging 7th-round stoppage loss at the hands of newly-crowned OPBF boss Kazuhiko Hidaka in Tokyo.
Sultan, however, continues to see his marketability in Asian boxing, as he is already penciled in to see action on December 3 against Taisei Marumoto in Osaka, Japan.
