SINGAPORE HOSTS BIG BOXING EVENT TODAY PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Jan 2010 SINGAPORE--The biggest boxing event in this city state's recent memory finally takes place tonight when Top Rated Boxing Promotions presents "A New Beginning in Professional Boxing" at the Suntec Int'l Convention & Exhibition Hall. All fighters officially made weight during weigh-in held yesterday at the Movida, an upscale resto-bar in the city. PABA secretary-general Alan Kim presided over the weigh-in along with his officials, as Singapore doesn't have a local boxing commission to oversee the proceedings. PABA rules will be applied in tonight's event. Promoters Daniel Potter and John Leung hope this will spark a renewed interest in professional boxing in this part of Asia, especially that local fighter Mohammad Nor Rizan is back in fighting form tonight with the support of his local fans. "I am not going to promise a knockout. But one thing I can assure is I will do my best in this fight," said Rizan at yesterday's official weigh-in. The main event pits Guyana's Leon Moore going up against Indonesia's Marangin Marbun for the PABA superbantam throne. "If he wins, we'll try to arrange a world title fight for him here in Singapore," says the 35-year-old Potter, hoping that the Guyana fighter will get the chance to challenge WBA champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym. Four more bouts are scheduled on the show, including Filipinos Ariel Delgado and Australia-based Ariel Barotillo who are facing separate foreign opponents. Delgado takes on Japan's Zaragoza Uema in a ten-round duel, while Barotillo, brother of former Manny Pacquiao foe Arnel Barotillo, trades leathers with China's Xu Cung Liang. Thailand's undefeated Saddam Kietyungyoth is also returning to action against Korean Jong Yoon Choi in an 8-round encounter. |
