Dr Ed de la Vega, who was at ringside, reported by phone that Gorres knocked down his opponent in the 3rd round. With 20 seconds remaining in the 10th and last round, Melendez knocked down Gorres but Gorres held on to survived and earn the decision.
Gorres has now upped his record to 31-2-2 with 17KOs while Melendez dropped to 26-4-1 21KOs.
After the verdict was announcement and when photographers were about to finish taking pictures, Gorres was seen unsteady walking back to his corner and then collapsed. Gorres was carried by a stretcher out of the venue and immediately brought to a hospital by an ambulance.
