MAJOR SHOWS:

APRIL 17

NEW YORK, NY, USA SUPER FEATHER ALYCIA BAUMGARDNER (18-1) W PTS 10 BO MI RE SHIN (19-4-3). SUPER MIDDLE: LANI DANIELS (12-4-2) W TKO 9 SHADASIA GREEN (16-2). SUPER MIDDLE: RAQUEL MILLER (14-0) W PTS 6 ADRIANO DOS SANTOS ARAUJO (6-4).

Baumgardner vs. Shin
BAUMGARDNER successfully defends the IBF, WBA and WBO belts as she outscores the incredibly tough Korean RE SHIN. In a fight over three minute rounds Baumgardner dominated most of the way before flagging a little late. Over the first five rounds Baumgardner was showcasing the quality and quantity of her performance. She set a fast pace walking forward throwing quick, accurate combinations to head and body and Shin just could not match her. When Shin’s pressure forced Baumgardner onto the back foot she was walking Shin onto a barrage of counters and then sliding away from the pressure. Baumgardner shook Shin badly in the fifth and scored heavily over the sixth. Despite the punishment Shin had never stopped walking forward and Baumgardner began to show signs of tiring from the fast pace she herself had set. Shin won her first round in the sixth. Baumgardner was flagging and Shin just kept on coming and was getting through with some good shots. The seventh was close but Shin seemed to end the round stronger. Rather than trying to stand and trade with the Korean Baumgardner used clever movement to bring the pace down in the eighth and Shin’s output dropped. Baumgardner was back in full control over the ninth and tenth and she outscored Shin in both rounds to win on scores of 98-92 twice and 99-91. There was mention of a fight with WBC/WBO lightweight champion Caroline Dubois but Baumgardner indicated she was more interested in fighting Katie Taylor or Amando Serrano. Shim had lost a majority decision to Caroline Dubois in a WBC title fight in March 2025.

Daniels vs. Green
New Zealander DANIELS springs an upset as
she stops champion GREEN in the ninth round to win the IBF and WBO titles. Green made a good start boxing well behind her jab in the first. Daniels took over from the second. She was putting Green under plenty of pressure being busier and getting the better of the exchanges in the third and fourth. Green came back into the fight with a strong fifth but pressure from Daniels had Green on the defensive and pinned against the ropes in the sixth. There were some fierce exchanges in the seventh as both connected with hard shots but Daniels was taking control and Green looked to be running out of gas in the eighth. Daniels launched a big attack in the ninth and an exhausted Green collapsed and the fight was stopped.Green was taken from the ring on a stretcher and taken to hospital. She subsequently posted that she fainted from a brain haemorrhage but was recovering. Daniels is a former IBF light heavyweight champion
Miller vs. Dos Santos
Californian MILLER just scrapes past Brazilian ARAUJO to retain her 100% record. She was down in the second but regrouped and went on to win on scores of 57-56 twice and 58-55. Miller is a former WBA Interim super welter champion.
Vargas vs. Jalomo
VARGAS returns to action with unanimous decision over unbeaten JALOMO. Despite being out of the ring for 30 months southpaw Vargas was in charge from the start keeping Jalomo under constant pressure and landing more and heavier shots. Scores 78-74 twice and 79-79.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND: FEATHER: CRISTOBAL LORENTE (21-0-3) W PTS 12 NATHANIEL COLLINS (17-1-1) W. SUPER FEATHER: ROYSTON BARNEY-SMITH (16-0) W TKO 2 CONOR McINTOSH (10-3). MIDDLE: SAM GILLEY (19-2-1) W TKO 5 ASTON BROWN (9-1). SUPER BANTAM: DYLAN ARBUCKLE (10-0) W RTD 4 NICO LEIVARS (7-1-1). FEATHER: LATEEF BAYO ALABI (6-0) W PTS 8 MARCUS SUTHERLAND (10-1). SUPER MIDDLE: ALEX ARTHUR Jr (4-0) W KO 1 OWEN KIRK (3-7-2). WELTER: DREW LIMOND (6-0) W PTS 4 RYAN FROST (3-14). WELTER: REESE LUNCH (4-0) W TKO 3 MATTHEW KING( 8-17-1).
Lorente vs. Collins
LORENTE climbs off the floor to take a split decision over COLLINS in a world title eliminator. These two had fought a split draw in October and this one was again close. Collins found the target when boxing on the back foot and getting through with left counters. Lorente was the busier fighter constantly firing jabs, throwing more and tended to put together some impressive bursts of punches both to score for himself and to smother the efforts from Collins. In the sixth a powerful right jab from Collins sent Lorente down. That could have been a game changer but Lorente just got up and took the fight to Collins. If it was not for the 10-8 obsession for any knockdown scored Lorente would probably have won the round as he landed more punches. Lorente’s response to the knockdown typified his approach and although Collins landed the harder single punches he was simply being outworked. Collins had a good tenth as he fought hard to turn the fight his way but Lorente kept up his volume work and was a deserving winner. Scores 115-112 twice for Lorente and 116-111 for Collins. Lorente deserves credit for twice tackling Collins in Scotland and his rewards were winning the WBC Silver title and putting himself in line for a shot at WBC champion Bruce Carrington. Collins will regroup and come again and has a good chance of landing a title shot further down the line.
Barney-Smith vs. McIntosh
BARNEY-SMITH has too much class and too much power for McINTOSH and halts him in the second round. McIntosh was the aggressor at the start coming forward firing jabs and straight lefts with Barney-Smith on the back foot but boxing cooly and landing two hard lefts to the head. McIntosh continued to advance firing punches but Barney-Smith was on target with more lefts and McIntosh was on the retreat at the end of the round. McIntosh wrestled Barney-Smith to the floor at the start of the second but a left to the body dropped him. He was up at eight but another body punch sent him down. He beat the count but when he slumped to the canvas under another Barney-Smith attack the fight was stopped. Barney-Smith, 22, wins the vacant British and Commonwealth titles having previously won the IBF European and WBO European belts McIntosh out of his depth. .
Gilley vs. Brown
GILLEY wins the vacant WBA International title with a stoppage of Glasgow’s BROWN. The first three rounds of this one were close. Brown was putting Gilley under pressure piling forward behind his jabs and firing shots to the body. Gilley handled the pressure well sliding away and connecting with hard counters and looked to be edging the rounds. Brown continued to come forward in the fourth but Gilley was picking him off with hard rights. Brown was a rocked by a right to the head and a left to the body in the fifth and dropped to one knee. He climbed to his feet but his right eye was almost closed and as he staggered under punches from Gilley the referee halted the fight. Former Commonwealth champion Gilley was rebounding from a close points loss to Ishmael Davis in November. Brown pushed hard but Gilley’s power was too much for him.
Arbuckle vs. Leivars
ARBUCKLE wins the vacant British title as LEIVARS is forced to retire after four rounds. Arbuckle walked through Leivars’ punches to win the opening round but the better boxing of Leivars took the second. The third and fourth were close but a swelling closed the left eye of Leivars and he retired at the end of the fourth so Scotland gets another British champion.
Alabi vbs. Sutherland
Nigerian-born Irishman ALABI wins the vacant Boxing Union of Ireland Celtic title with a unanimous decision over Scot SUTHERLAND. Alabi was just too quick and too clever for the hard-punching Sutherland. A southpaw Alabi effortlessly switched guards and used his height and reach to outbox the local. Sutherland, with five first round wins, was pressing hard in every round looking to use his power but he was an easy target for Alabi’s jab and had only limited success as Alabi won on scores of 78-74 twice and 79-74. Impressive performance from Alabi.
Arthur Jr vs. Kirk
ARTHUR disposes of KIRK IN 113 seconds. Arthur was looking to get this one over quickly and used strong right jabs to forced Kirk to the ropes unloading on him with straight rights and hooks from both hands. Kirk escaped but was driven across the ring and dropped to his haunches and then to his hands and knees and was counted out. All over in 61 seconds. The 24-year-old Arthur is the son of Alex Snr the former European, Commonwealth, British and WBO interim champion.
Limond vs. Frost
LIMOND outboxes FROST. Limond was on target with accurate left jabs and rights to the body. He put Frost under plenty of pressure switching his attacks well and Frost just could not compete against the better skills and faster hands of Limond. Frost finally had some success in the last but Limond already had the fight won. The referee scored it 40-37. Dad Willie was a British, Commonwealth and European Union champion.
Lynch vs. King
LYNCH beats KING on a stoppage in the second.
Southpaw Lynch spent the first two rounds hunting down a survival-minded King who just circled the perimeter of the ring trying to avoid contact. King suffered a bad cut over his left eye at the start of the third and Lynch upped the pressure. He was finally able to land some heavy hits and when King, his face a mask of blood, dropped to his knees his corner threw in the towel. It was hard for Lynch to look good against such a negative opponent. As an amateur he won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games beating Canadian Wyatt Sanford in the Semi Finals and it will be interesting to see how he develops. Second inside the distance loss for King.

APRIL 18

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND: LIGHT HEAVY: BEN WHITTAKER (11-0-1) W KO 1 BRAIAN SUAREZ (21-5). SUPER BANTAM: JOE McGRAIL (13-0) W KO 5 AARON HAYDEN (10-1). MIDDLE: STEPHEN CLARKE (10-0) W PTS 8 LUIS MONTELONGO (18-17). MOLLY McCANN (4-0) W PTS 8 ASHLEIGH JOHNSON (3-4) HEAVY: LEO ATANG (6-0) W PTS 6 CHVARKOU (6-33).

Whittaker vs. Suarez
WHITTAKER blasts out SUAREZ in the first. Whittaker was striding forward behind his jab with the huge speed gap already apparent. When Suarez threw his jab Whittaker connected with a right. Whittaker circled Suarez scoring with straight shots and hooks to the body. Suarez rushed forward with his head down but Whittaker tied him up and pushed him off. Whittaker continued to feed Suarez jabs then stepped in and scored with body punches and a right to the head forcing Suarez back to the ropes. He then exploded with a right to the side of the head that dropped Suarez who was unable to beat the count. An easy night for Whittaker against a strong but very slow Suarez. Eighth inside the distance win for the Olympic silver medallist and he is ready for better class opposition. Suarez fall to 4-4 in his last 8 fights.

McGrail vs. Hayden
McGRAIL solves the puzzle of HAYDEN’S style and puts him down and out in the eighth. Plenty of flashy movement from southpaw Hayden in the first as he scooted around McGrail switching guards holding his hands at thigh level and pushing out jabs with ten feints for every punch he threw but there was very little substance to the showy stuff. McGrail staggered Hayden with a left in the second which kicked off a spell of wide open exchanges. Hayden was more aggressive in the third taking the fight to McGrail with Hayden’s eccentric style giving McGrail some problems. Hayden launched a furious attack at the start of the fifth but a clash of heads opened a cut over his right eye. McGrail connected with a couple of rights then as they traded punches a right to the head and a left to the body had Hayden pitching forward to the canvas and he sat out the count unable to rise. McGrail, 23, wins the BBB of C Central Area title with his sixth win by KO/TKO. Hayden was making the first defence of the title he won last year.
Clarke vs. Montelongo
Former English amateur champion CLARKE continues unbeaten as he outpoints durable Mexican MONTELONGO. Almost an as expected victory for Clarke apart from a wakeup call when he was floored heavily in the fourth by a right to the head. He made it through the round to win 78-74 on the referee’s card. Only one win in his last 8 fights for Montelongo.
McCann vs. Johnson
The best fight of the night as JOHNSON makes McCANN fight hard for her victory. Plenty of fast-paced action with McCann having the edge but being pushed all the way. Johnson looked to have won the first and the eighth rounds with McCann winning every round in between those. Referee’s score 78-74. McCann comes from an MMA background.
Atang vs. Chvarkou
Teenage heavyweight ATANG goes the distance for the first time as he outpoints survival expert CHVARKOU. It was useful if frustrating for Atang as he had not previously gone past the third round. He again showed his tremendous potential. He lost a point for careless use of his head in the fourth but won 59-54 on the referee’s card. Ninth points loss in a row for British-based Belarusian Chvarkou.

APRIL 17

CALAIS, FRANCE: MIDDLE: EPHREM BARIKO (16-1) W RTD 6 FLORIAN BRUNEVAL (9-7-1).
BATKO successfully defends the French title as local hope BRUNEVAL does not come out for the seventh round. Bariko worked patiently banging to the body to bring Bruneval’s guard down to open him up to uppercuts and the strategy worked. Second defence of the national title and eighth inside the distance win for Bariko.

SERPUKHOV, RUSSIA: LIGHT: MIKHAIL GRIGORYAN (9-0,1 ND) W PTS 10 JEO SANTISIMA (26-10). HEAVY: ARTEM SUSLENKO (14-0) W TKO 3 ARTUR MANN (23-6): MIDDLE: ALEXEY SHENDRICK (5-0) W PTS 8 REDA KHAM (18-2).
Grigoryan vs. Santisima
GRIGORIAN wins the vacant IBF Asia title with a comfortable decision over Filipino SANTISIMA.
Southpaw Grigorian boxed on the back foot controlling the action with his right jab and firing straight lefts through Santisima’s guard. Santisima had problems with Grigorian’s southpaw style but came fortward for the whole fight with Grigorian feeding him jabs and using some slick footwork to circle way from Santisima’s attacks. Grigorian put together some impressive combinations but was allowed to get away with straight-arming Grigorian instead of jabbing. Santisima tried hard but Grigorian was too quick and too clever and Santisima failed to cut the ring enough to be competitive and Grigorian threw in some showboating at the end. I picked up two of the scores as 100-90 and 99-91 for Grigorian but missed the third. Grigorian, 22, a two-time European Youth champion, showcased some excellent skills. Former WBO super bantam title challenger Santisima was stopped by Emanuel Navarrete in a title shot in 2020.
Suslenko vs. Mann
SUSLENKO crushes MANN in three rounds. Both had some success in the first. Mann landed a couple of good rights but jabbing from Suslenko had Mann on the back foot by the end of the round. Suslenko was targeting Mann’s body in the second and Mann was doing a lot of holding trying to smother Susloenko’s attacks. In the third a clubbing right to the head had Mann dropping onto his hands and knees. Mann got up at eight but more rights had him falling to his hands and knees again. He was up quickly but when the action resumed rights from Suslenko again had Mann dropping to a knee and the fight was waived off. Suslenko was defending the WBA Continental title. He is a former Russian armed forces and World Military champion and is barred from entering Ukraine for 50 years! Kazak-born German Mann, 35. has lost to Kevin Lerena and Mairis Breidis in cruiserweight title fights.
Shendrik vs. Kham
SHENDRIK outpoints KHAM. No study time here as both fighters were throwing jabs and rights from the start. Shendrik looked a bit quicker and jabbed well over the first two rounds with Kham switching guards and looking to walk Shendrik onto counters. As the fight developed Shenrick stayed on the front foot outworking Kham who tried to walk in behind high guard but that allowed Shendrik to pick him off. The pace was quick and Shenrick was outworking a tiring Kham. Things were going Shendrick’s way in the seventh until Kham exploded a right to Shendrik’s head. That made the local fighter stumble and he was badly shaken. Kham piled on the punches but Shendrik survived to the bell. There was a break in the action in the eighth to give Kham time to receiver from a low punch and Shendrik outboxed Kham for remaining seconds. No scores given but at best Kham won the first and seventh rounds and Shendrik the other six. Shendrik, 22, gets eight useful rounds of work.
TORRELODONES, SPAIN: FEATHER: SHEILA MARTINEZ (11-3) W PTS 10 ALBA SANCHEZ(9-3).
Spaniard MARTINEZ wins the vacant European title as she outpoints Spanish champion SANCHEZ. Martinez had superior skills and comfortably dealt with Sanchez’s attacks boxing on the back foot and scoring with accurate counters from both hands. Sanchez had some success over the middle rounds but Martinez extra experience saw her scoop up the closing rounds winning on scores of 97-93 twice and 99-91. Martinez went 1-3 in her first 4 fights but won the European title in her eighth fight and made two defences before relinquishing the title. She has won her last ten infight. Sanchez won her first seven fights but nis 2-4 in here last 6 .

APRIL 18

KORNEUBURG, AUSTRIA : SUPER MIDDLE: BERNARDIN JAKAJ (20-1) W KO 2 MIREL DRAGAN (12-1). SUPER WELTER: YURI SAKUNTS (22-0) W TKO 4 ROBERT TLATLIK (25-4).
Jakaj vs. Dragan
Kosovan-born Austrian JAKAJ wins the vacant WBO European title with a second round kayo of Romanian southpaw DRAGAN. Fourth win in a row for Jakaj who is rebuilding after a points loss against Constantino Nanga in 2024.
Sakunts vs. Tlatlik
Armenian southpaw SAKUNTS makes it 17 consecutive inside the distance wins as picks up the vacant WBO European title with a fourth round stoppage of Polish-born German TLATLIK. Sakunts specialises in second rate titles already having won the WBU, GBC and UBO belts. Losers Dragan 39 and Tlatlik 37.
BELEM, BRAZIL: CRUISER: LUCAS PEREIRA (11-1) W TKO 1 YAMAGUCHI FALCAO (25-3-1) W.
DA SILVA/PEREIRA crushes FALCAO in the first round. A series of punches had Falcao in trouble and trying to hold. Pereira shook him off and another barrage ending with a left hook to the body sent Falcao to his knees. He managed to get up but another array of punches had him staggering and as he was trapped in a corner with Pereira unloading to head and body the referee stopped the fight. A shock result and Pereira wins the vacant WBA Fedelatin and WBO Latino titles in his tenth inside the distance finish. His loss was a fifth round stoppage by Efetobor Apochi back in 2024. Falcao won a bronze medal at the London Olympics but he has disappointed as a professional.
BRAKPAN, SOUTH AFRICA: HEAVY: SHAUN POTGIETER (11-3) W KO 7 CHRIS THOMPSON (16-7-1).
The South African heavyweight title changes hands again as former champion POTGIETER beats reigning champion THOMPSON in seven rounds. Potgieter swung the fight his way when he began to target Thompson’s body. By the fourth Thompson was already slowing. A right sent Thompson down in the seventh and a second knockdown saw the fight ended. Potgieter had lost his last two contests against Justis Hunt and a seventh round stoppage by Thompson in August which cost him the national title. Thompson had won his last 4 fights.
