USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team Swept Day Two of World Boxing Cup - Stage 1

Team USA Goes Undefeated Day Two In Brazil

FOZ DO IGUACU, Brazil (April 21, 2026) – USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Team delivered a flawless performance on day two of the World Boxing Cup – Stage 1 in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, going undefeated across five bouts.

Alyssa Mendoza (57 kilograms) set the tone for Team USA with an impressive victory over Ireland’s 2024 Paris Olympian, Michaela Walsh. The Idaho native dominated every round, earning a unanimous decision to advance to the quarterfinals, where she will face Chinese Taipei’s Shih Yi Wu on Friday, April 24.

Following Mendoza’s dominant 5-0 victory, Lorenzo Patricio (55 kilograms) secured his fifth international win of the year with a hard-fought 4-1 split decision over Morocco’s Othman Chadghour. With the win, Patricio advances to the Round of 16, where he will face England’s Ellis Trowbridge on Thursday, April 23.

The dominance carried over into the second session, with Marie-Angelis Rosendo (65 kilograms) and Marcus Luther (65 kilograms) each earning unanimous decision victories. Rosendo secured her first win of the year over Turkey’s Sema Çaliskan after sweeping the final two rounds to claim a 5-0 victory. She now moves on to the Round of 16, where she will face Poland’s Kinga Krówka on April 23.

As for Luther, he won every judge’s vote dominantly, scoring one 10-8 scorecard in the first round, four 10-8 scores in the second and two more in the final round. Luther moves on to the Round of 16, where he will face Moldova’s Alexandru Paraschiv on April 23.

Rounding out the day for the Stars and Stripes was Team USA’s super heavyweight, Kelvin Watts (90+ kilograms). The Virginia native secured his second win in 2026 with a 3-1 victory over Argentina’s Enzo Gallardo. Watts moves on to the quarterfinals to face Norway’s Omar Shiha on April 24.

Team USA will have a packed Wednesday, with four boxers entering the ring, starting off with USA Boxing’s 2025 World Boxing Championships silver medalist Yoseline Perez (54 kilograms). The Houston native will make her highly anticipated tournament debut against Australia’s Monique Suraci in the Round of 16. Perez and Suraci will go head-to-head in Session 1, Ring A, Bout 1, at approximately 10:00 a.m. ET.

Following Perez, Salim Ellis-Bey (60 kilograms) will return to the ring after his 5-0 victory on Monday. Ellis-Bey is scheduled to face Ireland’s Jude Gallagher in Session 1, Ring A, Bout 8, at approximately 11:45 a.m. ET.

Also making their tournament debuts are Alisha Crockett (60 kilograms) against Canada’s Marie Al Ahmadieh and Simona Winkler (70 kilograms) against New Zealand’s Morgan Henderson. Crockett will enter the ring in Session 2, Ring B, Bout 3, at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET, while Winkler is set to follow shortly after in Session 2, Ring B, Bout 7, at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET.

At the World Boxing Cup - Stage 1, USA Boxing is led by Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assisted by National Development Coach Edward Fonteneaux (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Elite High Performance Coach Nikki Burleson (Oklahoma City, Okla.).
