Jesse Arevalo and Mayol By Anthony 'Duljoman' Andales PhilBoxing.com Sun, 23 Aug 2009 Isle of Palm, SC – After fixing all discrepancies on the 787’s me and my three other Italian (Giuseppe, another Giuseppe and the pretty innocent looking Lucia) colleagues, we agreed to unwind at the IOP Isle of Palm beach resort. The sun and the big waves are just the answers to the very stressful day. Italians didn’t know that I have something in mind. I’d like to talk to Jesse Arevalo (while watching Atlantic ocean), the new head coach of our very own Rodel “the 3 time world championship challenger, the Batang Mandaue, who loves Sabong, just like me” Mayol. So what I did was I took three full timeouts and headed to the bar where I enjoyed Negra Modelo. It’s good to have a Mexican beer and talk to a Mexican decent, the 34 yr old coach Jesse. He was born and raised here in the US and was more obliged to answer Philboxing’s questions. He said that when Buboy couldn’t make it, Freddie tapped him to be the head coach. "Mayol is peaking and by fight week Rodel will be at his best," Jessie said. "Roach told me not to make drastic changes from Buboy’s fight plan but instead, make sure that Mayol’s condition is optimum on fight night. Throw more jabs and bully the small Calderon to the ropes. To do that Mayol should be on his top shape." They expect Calderon to run, run and run. In this matter Coach Arevalo wanted to make sure that the judges can notice of who is the busier fighter if it goes to the full twelve championship rounds. "But we’re going for a knockout," he said. Jesse is in this business for 15 years now. When Justine Fortune feuded with Roach, he was in the right place and the right time. He became one of Roach’s main trustee at the gym. But Jesse didn’t like the experience when Michael Moorer was around. He didn’t elaborate but we hear lots of stories that wasn’t clearly elaborated also. Right Anino? I throw some funny but very realistic questions to Jesse. I asked him if he’s ready to face the limelight in the Philippines, especially in Mandaue greater area, once he delivered the Batang Mandaue to the promised land?... He responded with a question, "is there gonna be limelight Duljoman?... I will gladly make myself available to the limelight you are telling me if it is meant to be." Technically speaking, we’ll not include Roach, only Donaire Sr. is the most popular trainer there is right now as per Philippine boxing. Not to take away credits from the Villamor brothers for delivering Donnie Ahas Nietes to a world championship, but set-backs of Boom-Boom and my Kumpareng AJ pulled them a little bit to that coveted full-pledge stardom. So, if Mayol wins, this will gonna be a big time for Jesse to be embraced by Filipino boxing enthusiasts. Let’s put it this way, Mexico-Puerto Rico is a legendary rivalry, and slowly Philippine-Puerto Rico is headlining this year with a closing remark by Manny and Miguel. But a tandem of a Filipino and Mexican against Puerto Rico will happen this Sept. 12. Personally? I go with the tandem. Being this is Mayol’s 4th chance to become a champion, I think this gonna be sweeter than that of the second one. This is the best chance for Mayol, as we can see the previous fight, the small Calderon cannot hurt Mayol. As long as he follows the coach’s advice, to throw those jabs and lamboos Calderon in the ropes then, the truth will be told, Buboy’s inavailabilty is a blessing in disguise for Mayol. Miss... since nobody loves me here in Isle of Palm… more Negra Modelo please… Good luck to the Team Mayol. By the way, before I finished the story, Mayol answered my call and he is 114 lbs today. And guess who he sparred today?... catch me at Pinoy Boxing this Sunday with my Kasamang Salven and Kasamang Edward... we’ll talk a meaty discussion about boxing and how a boxer can dedicate a fight to someone’s mom when he didn’t even ask the blessing of his own mom. Ouch! Kumbatea! Oh! Beertime… A.I. and Starbury, buy one get one free, those two guys starting in one team, what you think?... Yeng Guiao should call the two and bring them as Fil-Ams, as everybody does, Philippine Basketball? SOLVED!... Guillermo Rigondeaux the Cuban Maverick (not related to Mark Cuban’s Mavericks) will be a champ in less than 5 fights?... So what is Chavez Jr. doing?, he is the Fury Champion… Glenn Donaire was told by Cameron Dunkin to just call him when he’s ready, but unfortunately Glenn was doing barbecue at that time because it is the birthday of his little girl, all family and relatives gathered and having fun, except one… the Lolo was away, training Sonsona… Lastly, I’m working with these Italians right?, can you believe how many Antonios, Ciros, Giuseppes, Lucas in our team? Ahh nevermind, I’ll say hi to Mauro Loccio, my favorite Liaison Giuseppe Pepe Petix and Giuseppe Massa… Thanks to my favorite Cochero who witnessed the Zero Crime the other week in Duljo, Mr. Attorney Ponnie!... Attorney hinaya lag bunal si Black Beauty ha… Click here to view a list of other articles written by Anthony 'Duljoman' Andales. |
