INTERNATIONAL PROSPECTS AND CONTENDERS TAKE TO THE RING ON ORTIZ VS. MAIDANA UNDERCARD AT STAPLES CENTER ON JUNE 27TH

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, June 25 - An international mix of talent from the United States, Mexico, Scotland and Australia will step into the ring on Saturday, June 27th to compete on the action-packed undercard of the Victor Ortiz vs. Marcos Maidana WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Championship bout at Los Angeles' STAPLES Center.

Featured on the undercard will be Scotland's Craig McEwan, Mexico's Enrique Ornelas, Australia's William Kickett and the United States' Adrien Broner and Mike Perez.

In the main event, Oxnard's "Vicious" Victor Ortiz faces Marcos Maidana for the interim WBA World Super Lightweight Title in a 12 round battle.

Ortiz vs. Maidana is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Universum Box Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and Southwest Airlines. The world championship bout will take place at STAPLES Center and will air on HBO Boxing After Dark beginning at 10:00pm ET/PT. Doors open at 3:30pm, and the first bell sounds at 4:00pm.

Tickets for this world championship fight, priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25, are on sale now, and may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets are also available at STAPLES Center Box Office.

Edinburgh, Scotland's Craig McEwan (15-0, 9 KO's), who is trained by Freddie Roach, has drawn rave reviews in 2009 for his big wins over Ivan Stovall, Alexis Divison and Brian Vera. Now, the 27-year-old hopes to build on that momentum when he takes on Youngstown, Ohio's Darnell Boone (16-10-2, 6 KO's), a crafty veteran who will bring a two-fight winning streak into the ring with him this Saturday night in an eight round middleweight battle.

Always exciting Jesus Del Monte, Guanajuato Mexico native and La Habra, California resident Enrique Ornelas (28-5, 18 KO's) was on the verge of a world middleweight title shot before he fell short in a controversial 12 round split decision loss to Marco Antonio Rubio last October. Ornelas is back and ready for another run at the title that will begin with his bout this weekend against Tacoma Park, Maryland's Willis Lockett (12-8-5, 5 KO's), a fighter who has been in with Keith Holmes, Darnell Wilson and Dante Craig. Ornelas and Lockett will meet up in an eight round middleweight contest.

Two of boxing's top young junior lightweights, Adrien Broner (9-0, 6 KO's) and Mike Perez (2-0-1, 2 KO's), will also be looking to display their skills for Los Angeles fight fans on June 27th. Cincinnati's Broner, who is coming off a big win over unbeaten Fernando Quintero in May, will be thrown right back into the fire in an eight rounder against Belga, Australia's William Kickett (15-1, 5 KO's), a well-regarded prospect and former WBO Asia Pacific and IBF Pan Pacific Youth champion. Newark, New Jersey's Perez, a highly-touted amateur star, will aim for his third professional win against Tucson's Thomas Herrera (2-1-1) in a four round bout.
