Davao's Corteza beats Biado, Aranas enters round-of-32 in P2 Million Bata Reyes 10 Ball Open By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 29 Aug 2025 Lee Vann Corteza hurdled his rivals to advance to the round-of-32 in the Efren "Bata" Reyes Yalin 10-Ball Championships at Pacman's Cue Club, Lower Ground Floor, Worldwide Corporate Center, Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, August 28,2025. Corteza, a six-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, defeated Lauro Bongay (9-2), World Champion Carlo Biado (9-3), and James Aranas (9-5), respectively. The 46-year-old resident of Cainta, Rizal, who hails from Davao City entered the Round of 32. "It was a tough match. Playing with Lauron (Bongay), Carlo (Biado) and James (Aranas)," said Corteza, fondly called "The Slayer" in the pool world. Also advancing in the event backed up by Senator Manny Pacquiao and organized by International Billiards and Snooker Champion Kap. Marlon Manalo were Jesson Marabi, Baseth Mocaibat and Raymond Faraon. Marabi toppled Marr Andrewe (9-7), Jomar Aribas (9-5), and Mario Tolentino (9-6); Mocaibat nipped Aivhan Maluto (9-8), Horace Angor (9-1), Zyrus Obello (9-7) and Val Jason Porras (9-6), while Faraon trounced Jun Bansil (9-4), Romeo Silvano (9-7), and Patrick Gonzales (9-6). Other cue masters who made it to the knockout stage were Roland Garcia, Jerson Cumayas, Ronato Alcano and Arnel Bautista. Garcia bested Ann Magdalene Jose (9-0), Augusto Hiyas (9-4) and John Vincent Vicedo (9-6); Cumayas beat Rommel Marmon (9-8), Jed de Castro (9-5) and Harry Vergarra (9-7); Alcano clobbered Prince Dizon (9-6), Marvin Estilong (9-6) and Demosthenes Pulpul (9-6); and Bautista waylaid Jovannie Edurece (9-7), Poncho Manurung (9-4), and Johann Chua (9-7).
