?BAKBAKAN SA BUTUAN? PBF JR. FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

PhilBoxing.com

Philippine Boxing Federation Jr. Featherweight Champion Adonis Aguelo of Maasin City, Southern Leyte will defend his title against challenger Johnrey Verano of Bukidnon. The fight dubbed as ?Bakbakan sa Butuan? will be held on March 21, 2009 at Otis Mall, Butuan City.

It will be Aguelo?s first defense of the title he won in just five professional bouts. The high-percentage knockout rate he had in his previous fights qualified him for the PBF championship.

Aguelo is undefeated in his five pro fights with a record of 4-0-1 (3 KOs) and won the PBF title with a very impressive second-round KO victory over Tiny Tyson of Cagayan de Oro City last November 20 at the Maasin City Gym, Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

Aguelo, a native of Barangay Matin-aw who followed the footsteps of the late PBF lightflyweight champion Alex ?Maasin Bomber? Aroy, also had wins over Reggie Campos, JR Mamulang, and Randy Megrino and a draw with Jose Ocampo.

Verano, on the other hand, has a record of 16-11-2 with 7 wins by KO. He lost four of his last five bouts, including three losses to Thai boxers in Thailand. In his last fight, he lost to Ricky Sismundo in Calapi, Bohol on October 13, 2007. The long layoff would put the Bukidnon native at a disadvantage against Aguelo.

According to matchmaker Willie Flores, if Aguelo is successful in his first defense in Butuan City, they will arrange another title fight in Maasin City. The Maasin City Government through the Maasin City Sports Council is willing to conduct the fight sometime in May.

Rex ?Wakee? Salud International Promotions in coordination with SC Pascual Promotions will entertain Butuan boxing aficionados with the ten-round main event plus seven supporting bouts. Admission is free.

Six Butuan City boxers will face separate opponents in the undercard. Darryl Amuncio will slug it out with Jayson Siaton of Lapulapu City for 8 rounds. Roel Honor will face Ryan Tampus of Bato, Leyte for 8 rounds. Ranel Suco will battle with Ernie Fontanilla of General Santos City for 6 rounds.

Roger Inchavez will exchange blows with Renjie Abendan of Cagayan de Oro City for 4 rounds. Joseph Mateo will clash with RJ Ano-os of Cebu City for 4 rounds. Roel Baquiano will collide with Fernando Ocon of Bato, Leyte for 4 rounds.

The only tussle, aside from the main event, involving a non-Butuan boxer is that of Rob Montero of Lapulapu City who will fight against Henry Acha of Cagayan de Oro City for 6 rounds.
