VILORIA, GONZALES WIN IN 'SOLO BOXEO' FAREWELL SHOW
ANTILLON STAYS UNDEFEATED

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- Comebacking Fil-Am Brian Viloria made an impressive showing when he dispatched Benjamin Garcia of Mexico with a second round TKO at the Alameda Swap Meet here tonight in Solo Boxeo's farewell telecast at Telefutura.

Fighting with a lot of confidence and composure right from the get go, Viloria timed his counters beautifully against a charging Garcia until he caught the Mexican flush in the jaw with a left-right combination at 1:17 in the second round that sent Garcia crushing to the canvas and unable to beat the count.

Viloria bagged his 5th straight victory this year and appeared ready to challenge for the title again after a disastrous campaign in the last two years where he lost his WBC light flyweight crown and failed to recapture it twice.

In the opening bout, Glenn 'Rapid Fire' Gonzales (8-0-1 4KOs) of the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato Vice-Governor Manny Pinol, won by unanimous decision over Guadalupe de Leon of Texas, USA. Gonzales, who was the bigger fighter, was the aggressor throughout the 6-round contest but failed to put away the wily De Leon who avoid to mixed it up with the Cotabato native. All the three judges gave all the rounds to Gonzales, 60-54 after the contest.

In the night's main bout, undefeated lightweight Urbano Antillon (25-0-0 18KOs) of Namiquipa, Mexico added another victim to his resume after he demolished Juan Ramon Cruz of Puerto Rico in 4 rounds. Antillon, who previously stopped Bobby Pacquiao in the first round, sent Cruz to the canvas 10 seconds from the opening bell but the gallant Puerto Rican held on to finish the round amidst a continuos barrage of power punches from Antillon. In the 3rd round, Antillon dropped Cruz to the canvas for the second time and again in the 4th round when Referee Raul Caiz, Jr finally stepped in to stop the carnage.

The long-running 'Solo Boxeo' of Bob Arum's Top Rank which covered the early fights of many present day stars including Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Rafael and Juan Manuel Marquez, has made its last stop tonight after Telefutura announced last month that it was scrapping the show.

The referee raises the hand of Brian Viloria after Viloria knocked out his opponent in the second round at the Alameda Swap Meet in Los Angeles.
