REPORT OF ROACH AND THE FLU IS ABSURD
By Brad Cooney PhilBoxing.com Thu, 24 Jul 2008
An angry Freddie Roach contacted this writer to respond to a recent report by Alex Vidal. The report claimed that Roach had come down with the flu, and that Roach's staff reported that he had to be hospitalized as a result. Roach went on the record with this writer and had the following to say, "This report is ABSURD. I had an eye doctor appointment scheduled, and I couldn't be late for it. Concepcion was 2 hours late reporting to the gym, and I couldn't wait around for him." Roach went on to say, "I don't know if this kid thinks he's Manny Pacquiao already, or what, but when he shows up two hours late and I have a doctors appointment, I can't wait around for him."
The report also had Roach's conditioning coach, Eric Brown quoted as saying that Roach must have been over fatigued due to the volume of rounds that he had worked, working the mitts last Monday. Roach again scoffed at that report, "I have Eric standing right here next to me, and he's laughing after hearing of this. I don't know where some of these people get their information, but I sure wish someone would ask me before they report such things," said Roach.
