QUOTES FROM TODAY’S OFFICIAL CLARESSA SHIELDS VS. LANI DANIELS PRESS CONFERENCE AT LITTLE CAESARS ARENA IN DETROIT

PhilBoxing.com

71 percent of tickets sold for Shields vs. Daniels have been purchased by women

DETROIT (July 23, 2025) – The GWOAT, Claressa Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), will return home to Detroit on Saturday, July 26, when she puts her Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship on the line in the main event at Little Caesars Arena against the reigning IBF Lt. Heavyweight World Champion from New Zealand, Lani Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO). Shields vs. Daniels will air live on the global home of boxing, DAZN. Shields, the most decorated female boxer in history, made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first woman ever to claim the Undisputed Heavyweight World Championship—and the first boxer, male or female, to achieve undisputed status in three weight divisions. Ahead of Saturday’s nearly sold-out event, Dmitriy Salita and the main and co-main event fighters took to the dais to address the media.

Dmitriy Salita: President, Salita Promotions

“From Ford to Motown, Joe Louis to Tommy Hearns — Detroit has always been at the forefront of culture, sports, and innovation. On July 26, Claressa Shields will make history once again, becoming the first fighter ever to defend the Undisputed Heavyweight World Title in Detroit.”

“This isn’t just a boxing event — it’s a cultural moment. Icons like Rick Ross, Papoose, Mo’Nique, Jazmine Headley, and rising star King Moore will join us at Little Caesars Arena for a night where sports, music, and history come together in the heart of the Motor City.”

“Tickets are almost sold out. The roof is going to come off this building.”

“Claressa Shields was the first woman ever to headline a main event for cable television here in Detroit in 2017. Since then, the gates of opportunity have opened for women worldwide. Throughout her career, Claressa has made it a point to make sure that we headline and showcase some of the great women boxers. This card is no different.”

Claressa Shields: Undisputed Heavyweight World Champion

“I am so grateful to share a card with Tony Harrison. I watched him fight here in Detroit when I was 11 years old. He is just as outgoing and loud as he was back then.”

“I have a very scary opponent in front of me. I have not taken her (Lani Daniels) lightly and respect her. I have to rise to the occasion and bring out a different beast. I am not trying to break her strong spirit.”

“I told everyone last month that this fight is going to be sold out.”

“I know 100 percent that I haven’t smoked marijuana. That was very shocking. Something is wrong with the swab test here in Michigan. There needs to be better testing.”

“I am going to take a urine test the night before the fight on Friday, which is more accurate than the swab test.”

“My arm is completely healed. I will have no excuses after fighting Lani. I can still get the job done even if I only have one arm.”

“I am happy that Lani is happy. She called me out last year. I just show up and fight. I have beaten the best women in boxing. There is no one for me to beat except for the women put in front of me.”

Lani Daniels: IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion

“I am grateful to be here and have a voice. I am better at fighting than talking. I am about to fight the best woman on the planet. I am here for a reason and a purpose.”

“It has always been more about boxing. It’s about my people (of New Zealand). I am here for a greater reason.”

Tony Harrison: Former WBC Light Middleweight World Champion

“It has been a long time coming since I’ve stood on a podium and talked some s**t.”

“It’s time. I’ve been patiently waiting in the back of the wing for an opportunity to present itself. Salita gave me that opportunity. I’m not starving for money, but I love the sport of boxing.”

“I didn’t want to be 48 years old before somebody gave me the opportunity to pick up those gloves again. Without Salita, I would still be on the couch figuring this thing out.”

“I was an a**hole for a lot of years. I am going to let my hands do the talking. For me to be as loud as I was, it didn’t add up for me sometimes. We always have something to prove. I became world champion by becoming the baddest man in my division.”

“I am here to let my hands do the talking and have fun. I am going to do it again and drop the mic.”

Mark Taffet: Claressa Shields’ Manager

“Every time we do a fight with Claressa, it is important to her that women and children get lifted up. On this fight we have a program called “Follow Your Dreams.” It’s a message to kids; no matter who you are and where you’re from, dreams can come true. Claressa picked herself up from nothing. For this fight we are inviting 1,000 children from seven different Detroit organizations.”

“We initially asked for 10,000 seats at the Little Caesars Arena. Tickets sold so well that we had to open to open the first mezzanine. Those sold out so last Monday we opened the second mezzanine. We currently have 15,000 tickets sold for Saturday night and look forward to a total or near sellout.”

“71 percent of tickets sold for Saturday night have been purchased by women. That is because of what Claressa Shield has done.”
