SPORTS FACTS AND FIGURES 47: CHARLY SUAREZ FACES HENRY LEBRON ON APRIL 13

PhilBoxing.com

Charly Suarez will exchange blows with Henry Lebron on April 13 in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. The 35-year-old Suarez dreamed of a world title this year, but must face Lebron first and defeat him to move up in the rankings in the super featherweight division.

This will be a war of undefeated boxers. Suarez of San Isidro, Davao del Norte, recorded 16 wins with nine knockouts, while Lebron of Puerto Rico had a slate of 19 wins with 10 knockouts.

* * *

The two fighters are both world rated. "King’s Warrior” Suarez is rated No. 7 in the lBF and No. 11 in the WBO. “Moncho” Lebron is the No. 6 contender in the IBF and No. 8 in the WBO.

Suarez's last fight was on August 26, 2023 when he defeated Yohan Vasquez of the Dominican Republic by unanimous decision in his first outing in the United States.

Suarez made headlines on March 13 last year by winning three regional titles, by knocking out Australian Paul Fleming in the 12th round in Sydney, Australia. He then seized the IBF and IBO intercontinental super featherweight titles and the WBC Asian super featherweight title.

On the other hand, the 26-year-old Lebron encountered a durable opponent in his last bout against American William Foster III but won via majority decision on November 4 last year in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

The first ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-point battle in the All-Star Weekend featured Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry up against New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, two of the best shooters of their respective leagues.

* * *

Ionescu fired treys first and recorded 26 points. But Curry proved he is the greatest NBA shooter of all time as he overtook Ionescu's score with 29 points to claim the three-point winner's belt.

* * *

Sabrina Ionescu set the all-time record for NBA or WNBA with a score of 37 points in the final round of the WNBA three point contest and crowned the new 3-point champion of the league.

Sports History: February 18, 1928. Sonja Henie of Norway won the women’s figure skating gold medal at the St. Moritz Winter Olympic Games. It was her first of three consecutive titles in the same event.
