Cordero PhilBoxing.com Thu, 12 Mar 2026 ![]() Ronald Hearns (L) with his father Tommy 'Hitman' Hearns. It has been learned that a hearing was held this Wednesday, March 11, in the Oakland County Probate Court, and the Chief Pro Tempore Judge of Oakland County Probate, Daniel A. O'Brien, determined that Ronald Hearns, the eldest son of the legendary American boxer Tommy "Hitman" Hearns, will be the guardian and conservator of his father. From now on, Ronald will legally be responsible for the care, maintenance, and administration of the health, finances, and future projects of the 67-year-old former world champion. “The legendary Tommy Hearns only expressed his desire for everything to be calm and well, and for everything to proceed smoothly,” Hearns said. “My dad is a great man with a big heart, but it’s not pleasant for him to be going through this situation at this point in his life,” said Ronald Hearns, who was also a professional boxer. Hearns began boxing around the age of 10, winning six world championships and becoming the first boxer to win titles in five different weight classes. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012 after a career spanning from 1977 to 2006 with a record of 61 wins (48 KOs), 5 losses, and 1 draw. He faced some of the best fighters of his era, including Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Pipino Cuevas, Wilfredo Benitez, Mark Medal, Iran Barkley, James Kinchen, and Virgil Hill, among others. Hearns recently lost his home due to a foreclosure and lives with his eldest son Ronald. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Gabriel F. Cordero. |
