PORRAS FIGHTS DEMICILLO JUNE 21 PhilBoxing.com Sat, 07 Jun 2008 Kidapawan City, North Cotabato -Glenn "The Rock" Porras goes up against the durable Philipp Jun Demecillo in a 10-round non-title bout in Midsayap town, North Cotabato June 21 in a post-Independence Day boxing event dubbed "Night of Rock and Roll." The Porras-Demecillo bout will headline a dozen matchups featuring the upcoming boxers of the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato against fighters from other parts of Mindanao Island. The boxing event will be free to the public. Demecillo is best known for his spectacular knockdown of WBO jr. featherweight Oriental Champion Eric Canoy in a recent fight in Zamboanga City which ended in a draw after a clash of heads in the 2nd round. "Demecillo will be another good test for Porras," said North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Pinol who manages and owns the Braveheart Boxing Club along with his brothers. "If Porras succeeds against Demecillo, we will ask our US based boxing advisor, Cameron Dunkin, to match Porras with a boxer who is rated in the bantamweight division of either the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) or the North American Boxing Association (NABA)" Vice Gov. Pinol said. "Our target is to get Glenn Porras to fight for the American continental title before the end of the year," he said. Porras, 23, a southpaw who holds a record of 13 wins (8 KOs) and 2 losses, is expected to be the third fighter of the Braveheart Boxing Club to move over to the United States to pursue his boxing career. Two of his teammates, featherweight Glenn Gonzales and bantamweight Jundy Maraon, have already been signed up by Bob Arum's Top Rank Promotions. Also seeing action in the Midsayap card is junior featherweight prospect Reynaldo Belandres, 21, a former amateur standout who holds a record of 7 wins in 7 pro fights with 5 KOs. He will go up against the veteran Jun Pader. It will be Belandres' first 10-round fight. Undefeated jr. featherweights Lorenzo Villanueva, 21, and Rolando Magbanua, 22, will figure in their 8th professional bouts. Villanueva, a southpaw who stands 5' 7" holds a record of 7 wins with 7 KOs while Magbanua is 7 wins with 4 KOs. Villanueva will go up against the veteran Rico Genon while Magbanua will fight Jerry Manganip both for 8 rounds. Other bouts: - Rommel Asenjo (6W L 6KO) vs. Jetli Purisima (4W 1L 1KO 1D) 8 rds. 105 lbs. - Ronnie Apilado (4W 1L 4KOs) vs. Jun Morano 6 rds., 115 lbs. - Rey Juntilla (2W 2KOs) vs. Andalyn Adajar, 4 rds, 112 lbs. - Jonel Jabel (3W 2KO) vs. Joven Romasasa 4 rds., 108 lbs. - Randy Lagos (1W 1KO) vs. Gerald Cachin, 4 rds., 112 lbs. - Rey Mercado (1W 1KO) vs. John Rey Loreto 4 rds., 108 lbs. The fights will be staged at the Midsayap Municipal Gymnasium starting at 6 p.m |
