 Esmeralda Moreno.
The former Mexican WBC light flyweight world champion, Esmeralda Moreno is on the nomination ballot to enter the international boxing hall of fame in Canastota, New York in 2024 in which the three-time Bulgarian champion, Daisy Lang and Natalya Ragozina from Kazakhstan also appear in the ballot in the modern women's boxing category.
"The news is a surprise. I am very pleased because it comes at a very special moment for me since I am close to announcing my retirement. I have a situation with a wrist injury and the orthopedic diagnoses are not good and have already been several years of inactivity. Just being nominated is an honor and pride for my career and for Mexican women's boxing," said Esmeralda Moreno.
Esmeralda Moreno was born in Chimalhuacán on July 7, 1987 and had a record of 35 wins (11KOs), 12 losses and 2 draws between 2005 and 2019.
She faced: Ibeth Zamora, Jessica Chavez, Alesia Graf, Mayela Pérez, Ana Maria Torres, Mariana Juárez, Simona Galassi, Maribel Ramírez, Naomi Togashi, Yessica Nery, Eva Voraberger, Melissa McMorrow, Yessenia Gómez and Diana Fernández among many others.
Esmeralda was a great exponent of women's boxing and a very reserved, disciplined and decent boxer. Her last fight was in November 2019.
Boxers are nominated after four years of retirement and are chosen by members of the Boxing Writers Association of the United States, boxing historians and participating voters from Mexico, Japan, Argentina, England, the United States, Germany and Canada.
Since 2020, female fighters have been included, with Laura Serrano in 2023 being the first and only Mexican to belong to this immortal world boxing venue.
