DIAZ PLANS TO PRESSURE PACQUIAO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 May 2008 World Boxing Council lightweight champion David Diaz plans to put the pressure on Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao in their ?Lethal Combination? showdown at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on June 28. Viva Sports special correspondent in Chicago where Diaz lives and trains ? Romy Sajer ? said the Diaz camp believes that putting pressure on Pacquiao would do the trick and as a result Diaz ?will do better than anybody has done against Manny Pacquiao.? Diaz is well aware that Pacquiao has beaten a roster of Mexican fighters including legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik ?El Terrible? Morales but said ?I will definitely try my best because I don?t want to be another notch on his (Pacquiao?s) belt. It would be nice if Manny Pacquiao would be a notch in my belt.? Legendary trainer Jim Strickland who handles Diaz said their strategy is ?very simple -to out-punch Pacquiao. That will be our goal.? Just like Pacquiao, Diaz has declined to make any predictions on the outcome of their title fight but said he believes the fight might go the distance and that ?a lot is going to come down to conditioning.? Sajer, the former news anchorman/reporter of NBN 4 in Manila said that Diaz who began training some two weeks before Pacquiao said he is totally focused on the Pacquiao fight . ?That?s the only thing that?s on my mind right now. I don?t look any day past that? added Diaz. Pacquiao meantime continues his grueling daily grind at Freddie Roach?s Wild Card gym in his quest to become the first Asian to win four world titles. Roach has been working on Pacquiao?s speed and footwork while Pacquiao himself is honing his hook with both hands which he believes could well be the key in the fight against Diaz who is also, like him, a southpaw.
