Canelo -1800 over Ryder in the biggest boxing event in Mexico history
By Gabriel F. Cordero PhilBoxing.com Tue, 02 May 2023

Mexican world sports superstar and undisputed super middleweight world champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) is a massive -1800 favorite to retain his WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts against the challenger British WBO mandatory John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs) in next weekend's mega event at the 50,000 capacity Estadio Akron de Zapopan, Jalisco in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Unofficial sources indicate that the Stadium will be at its maximum capacity and the largest audience record on Mexican television is expected and it is expected that it can be transferred to DAZN PPV for $54.99 if you are a subscriber.
The Canelo-Ryder match has been the boxing event in Mexico with the most coverage and dissemination in the entire history of boxing and sports in this country, there is no precedent that the two main television networks TV Azteca and Televisa have had on their screens so much information and publicity for a boxing event and it seems to have surpassed any soccer event for the Mexican team and its professional league.
In the co-feature, WBC flyweight champion Julio César Martínez (19-2, 14 KOs) defends against Panamanian star Ronal Batista 15-2, 9 KOs).
Other notable fights include light welterweight contender Steve Spark (16-2, 14 KOs) against Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela (26-3-1, 16 KOs) and the return of former WBC light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (18- 1, 14 KOs) against Ricards Bolotniks (19-6-1, 8 KOs).
